Take Me Home Country Roads
John Denver Lyrics

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

All my memories gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice in the mornin' hour, she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin' down the road, I get a feelin'
That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

Take me home, (down) country roads
Take me home, (down) country roads

My father was from West Virginia.
Every time I listen to this song I cry.
My Dad passed away December 26, 2014.
Seems like only yesterday he was telling me stories of rough housing
with his brothers in the attic of their house and one of them knocked the Johnny-pot over.
All of that "stuff" ran down into the stove that was right below the attic.
My Dad said it was the most putrid, rotten smell ever!
My Dad shared his love of planes and trains with me.
I love steam engine trains and watching airplanes.
I take after my dad a lot...and I'm a woman, but that doesn't matter.
I love you and I miss you, dad!!
