Daisy a Day
Jud Strunk Lyrics

He remembers the first time he met ‘er
He remembers the first thing she said
He remembers the first time he held her
And the night that she came to his bed

He remembers her sweet way of singin'
Honey has somethin' gone wrong
He remembers the fun and the teasin'
And the reason he wrote ‘er this song

I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away

They would walk down the street in the evenin'
And for years I would see them go by
And their love that was more than the clothes that they wore
Could be seen in the gleam of their eye

As a kid they would take me for candy
And I loved to go taggin' along
We'd hold hands while we walked to the corner
And the old man would sing ‘er his song

I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away

Now he walks down the street in the evenin'
And he stops by the old candy store
And I somehow believe he's believin'
He's holdin' ‘er hand like before

For he feels all her love walkin' with him
And he smiles at the things she might say
Then the old man walks up to the hilltop
And gives her a daisy a day

I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away

This tune blew people away when it first appeared, nearly 40 years ago, and it still has the same effect on folks who hear it today. It really strikes a chord in warm hearts.

40 yrs ago my 18yo bf sang it to me. Some moments you never forget ❤️

In my mind, this is one of the greatest songs ever written because it sings about love everlasting... til death do we part. It's a song about love that everyone should have for their partner through life.

If this song doesn't bring you to tears then you're not human. Who among us wouldn't want a love like this?

Christine Lee

It makes me cry everytime

Tammy Burch

My grandfather sung this song to me all the time when he died I took a Daisy a day to his grave. And on the one year mark I took 365 daisies. I’ll love him until the rivers run still and he will never be replaced!

Barbie Dallmann

I sang this song to my son when he was little ... it was one of his favorites. "Sing me Daisy-a-day, Mama!" he would plead, saying the title like it was one word. That was 26 years ago, and the song still reminds me of rocking my little one with a smile on my face, all the while trying to hold back the tears.

Christine Lee

I did the same to my grandson also You are My Sunshine.

Stephen Smith

Beautiful, Barbie. My son is 27 now and still loves the song.
