Touch The Sky
Julie Fowlis Lyrics

When the cold wind is a-calling
And the sky is clear and bright
Misty mountains sing and beckon
Lead me out into the light

I will ride, I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky
I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky

Where dark woods hide secret
And mountains are fierce and bold
Deep waters hold reflections
Of times lost long ago

I will hear their every story
Take hold of my own dream
Be as strong as the seas are stormy
And proud as an eagle's scream

I will ride, I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky
I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky

And touch the sky
Chase the wind
Chase the wind
Touch the sky

Where dark roots hide secrets
And mountains are fierce and bold
Deep waters hold reflections
Of times lost long ago

I will read every story
Take hold of my own dream
Be as strong as the seas are stormy
And proud as an eagle's scream

I will ride, I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky

I'd like to hear this song in Gaelic.

MJ Girl

Maybe since I speak Gaelic, can translate it

@marc peschke Very neat to hear. Is it spoken in particular regions of wales or is it just as spoken as welsh?

I am a little familiar with welsh, and can even read it a little after learning how to pronounce llanfairpg.

I also just found through a YouTube welsh lesson channel that did teach me how to pronounce llanfairpg; that welsh to native speakers, (maybe in her native Northern Wales), is spelled Cymraeg. Maybe it really depends on which area of wales you live in that possibly determines how you spell either cymraeg or gymraeg.

I also learned through the YouTube channel Lang focus, that welsh is a Brythonic Celtic language related to Cornish in Cornwall and Breton in the Brittany region of France; as well as possibly and even likely the extinct Pictish Language of modern day Scotland. I even remember hearing that Welsh and Cornish are even intelligible to a degree, yet I will have to check that.

@rypatmackrock

Well gymraeg is far away from being extinct. If you travel to wales you will find that it is very much alive. Like in Scotland, Ireland 90% of the signs are bilingual, english and the gaelic version. Some people even dare to say that welsh gaelic or gymraeg is closest in resemblens to the extinct language of the pict people. But that is yet to be proven.

rypatmackrock

@marc peschke I never heard of it, yet I am not surprised that it exists. Do you know how many people speak it, or is it a dormant/extinct language? I mean dormant as in there is all the literature and material to revive it.

As for where I learned what I know, I highly recommend The YouTube channels Lang focus for the history and Analysis of the languages, and I love languages to hear them spoken.

@rypatmackrock

You missed gymraeg the welsh gaelic. 😉
