Born in North London, Jack grew up on a diet of dance music including, break dance, electro hip hop and house. A wannabe break dancer at eight, his love of dance music led him to start DJing at the age of fifteen and he soon became submerged in DJ culture and US garage.
After completing a degree in Furniture Design Jack enrolled on a community music production course, which heightened his awareness to the potential of sampling. This inspired Jack to concentrate on perfecting his sound by night and to take on a series of unfulfilling jobs by day.
"I've been a washer upper, a flower arranger, a runner for a TV post production company... I even worked at Gap for while. That made me all the more determined to work at the music. I would get this down time in a studio and be recording all night, and working at Gap all day. It was knackering but it was very inspiring time."
Jack's debut album, 'The Outer Marker' is a collection of songs about modern life, relationships and the pressures of social situations. Originally released by the independent label RG Records, Just Jack's debut album 'The Outer Marker' received fantastic reviews. 'The Independent' described it as "impressive", Q said, "masterful", the 'NME' said "Awesome. Welcome Just Jack, you rule!", and 'The Big Issue' saluted Jack as "The new troubadour of daily life in the UK".
"The Outer Marker" has recently been re-packaged and re-released and now includes extra tracks and the video for 'Snowflakes'. It has been receiving plenty of airplay and remixes from the likes of Aphrodite and a famous Cure bootleg of 'Snowflakes' is now thrusting Just Jack into the limelight.
Recently, Jack and his band played his third ever gig to a great crowd at the Glastonbury Dance Tent and he will be performing at the V Festivals later this summer.
Jack Allsopp on Just Jack:
"I never had heroes and never wanted to be like other musicians", he says. "I have no affiliations to anyone, I'm not part of a gang, I'm not a part of a scene and I don't have a sound that's obviously a part of a scene. I'm Just Jack."

Starz in their Eyes
Just Jack Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They'll fill you up with drugs and booze
Maybe you'll make the evenin' news
And when you're trippin' over your dreams
They'll keep you down by any means
By the end of the night you'll be
Stiflin' your screams
Since you became a V.I. Person
It's like your problems have all worsened
Your paranoia casts aspersions
On the truths you know
And they'll just put you in a spotlight
And hope that you'll do alright
Or maybe not
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
So why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Starz in their eyes
Remember they said you'd show them all
Emphasize the rise but not the fall
And now you're playin' a shoppin' mall
Your mum and dad, they can't believe
What you appear to have achieved
While the rest of these users are just laughin' in their sleeves
Since you became a V.I. Person
It's like your problems have all worsened
Your paranoia casts aspersions
On the truths you know
And now the tabloids use your face
To document your fall from grace
And then they'll tell you that
That's just the way it goes
That's just the way it goes
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story
Well, they just didn't realize
And it's a long way to come
From the dog and duck karaoke machine
And Saturday night's drunken dreams
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story
Well, they just didn't realize
And it's a long way to come
From your private bedroom dance routines
And Saturday night's drunken dreams
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
So why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
Starz in their eyes
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story
Well, they just didn't realize
And it's a long way to come
From the dog and duck karaoke machine
And Saturday night's drunken dreams
When I grow up I'm goin' to be famous
Behind the steel barrier, sequence and glitter
Five inch heels still knee deep in the litter
Each of them a bitter bullshitter
Wrapped up in the cloak of fake glamor
Gettin' lost in the camera
Well, footprints are fool's gold
And diamonds crust their glitz on their one off plimsolls
So little time for these one off arseholes
Rigor mortis Ken and Barbie dolls
A pair of big shades and a push up bra
It's such a short gap between the gutter and stars
But you've come a long way from the place that you started
So why'd you wanna go and get so down hearted
Welcome to the kingdom of the blagger
Uncuttin' your nose, clean coat in your bladder
A whole lot happier, a whole lot sadder
Used to be satisfied, now you feel like Mick Jagger
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story
Well, they just didn't realize
And it's a long way to come
From the dog and duck karaoke machine
And Saturday night's drunken dreams
Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes?
It's the same old story
Well, they just didn't realize
And it's a long way to come
From your private bedroom dance routines
And Saturday night's drunken dreams
Just Jack's song "Starz In Their Eyes" is a social commentary on the price of fame and the toll it takes on those who strive for it. The song speaks to the pressure and manipulation an artist may face in the pursuit of success and glamour. The lyrics suggest that the people who promise to help you succeed will also bring you down in the end. They will fill you up with drugs, make sure you stay amused, and stifle your screams. The song describes how the media will use and exploit a person's face and success to document their fall from grace. Despite the darker aspects of the song, the chorus questions why people still strive to put stars in their eyes when they know the consequences.
The song begins by suggesting that those who promise to help you succeed are not always looking out for your best interests. They will make sure you stay amused, heavily implying that these people will manipulate and distract you to achieve their goals. The lyrics also suggest that these people will fill you up with drugs and booze and make sure you make the evening news. The song then describes the way in which these people will keep you down by any means possible, concluding that by the end of the night, you'll be stifling your screams. The lyrics of the song suggest that people who seek fame can become paranoid in the face of betrayal from people they thought they could trust. The second verse speaks to the negative side effects of success, like how other people will laugh in their sleeves when they appear to have achieved something. The final chorus asks why anyone would want to put stars in their eyes, questions whether there is any worth in pursuing fame to begin with.
