The Forest and the Shore

It's a funny old time that we're living in
Half the good people living in sin
And the hypocrites they will turn you in
Sooner than talk to you
Yeah, sooner than talk to you

I just don't seem to see things that way
Wonder if they tapped my phone today
And if you've got anything new to say
You'd better hide it
You'd better hide it

The olden gods have run from the people
Paradise is now a house in the city
And the spirit of Calvary
Has slowly gone
Down beneath a tide
Of cynics who deride
Everything
Who deride everything you believe in
Everything that you believe in

I heard the car doors slam in the night
Got up and switched on the light
Prepared to give in without a fight
If they should find us
Yeah, if they should find us

Looked down into the street to see my fate
Huh, it was just only the neighbours coming home late
Funny how you can get yourself in a state
From letting it all get you down
From letting it all get you down

We've come a long way from the forest and the shore
Lost our faith and don't know where to turn any more
And the spirit of Calvary
Has slowly gone
Down beneath a tide
Of politicians who decide
Everything
Everything that you, that you believe in
Everything that you believe in
Everything

Keith Christmas thanks so much for this - I got it about 90% right, you know how it goes when you guess! : D

He was the first act I ever saw back in May 71 at Leicester when he was support act for King Crimson, also a couple of months later when he was supporting the Who, same venue. I still have the Who ticket, the Who's Next was their new album so they were at their peak, the ticket was 55p. I always thought Keith Christmas sounded like Love's Forever Changes, he should have been big.

Yeah, I detect a bit of Tim and Arthur Lee too.

Please anybody remember the name of his student group when he played Cats Squirrel [email protected]

GOOD LUCK , as PYGMY has never been released on cd, although this track is on Timeless and Strange, a compilation.

HonoraryGreek

Timeless and Strange contains all but one of the tracks on Pigmy. The missing track is a short acoustic blues number called "Spanky" and it used to be available from his website.

I remember seeing him once when I had gone to one of those E Broughton Band back of a lorry gigs (near Wormwood Scrubs, if my old memory serves). Actually I'd gone for the Broughtons, but Christmas stays in my mind. Always pleased to come across his stuff on youtube. Thanks for posting. Anybody else reminded of Tim Buckley here?
