The band is called KILLINGER and its genesis came about when Dave Williams and Kevin Morin (lead vocalist and guitarist respectively) decided to team up to write intensively for an original project as they had extensive experience on the local hard rock scene. “We talked about combining our skills to create a concept” states Kevin. The concept was structured around key elements of 80’s rock music that would retain the melody and power which defines the genre and lends it so well to large arena performances. Unlike many new hard rock acts, the project was to feature technical expertise in the musicianship while being accessible. Rick Plester, who has worked with guitar legends Michael Schenker and George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob), recorded and co-produced the debut album and is a feature guest guitar soloist as well. George Lynch is also featured as a guest artist on the CD. There is no mistaking that this is an album that has a very strong guitar foundation. Powerhouse drummer, Pete Holmes, who has played with Black ‘N Blue, Ian Gillan, Ted Nugent, Peter Gabriel and Michael Schenker Group, plays all drums on the debut disk. Chris Challice now plays drums for KILLINGER and was recruited from Motley Crue tribute outfit, Crued. Justin Craig is bassist. Multi-Juno award winner and guest artist, Bill Bourne, contributed background vocals to the self-titled KILLINGER album.
The album was recorded in Edmonton, AB, mixed by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith) and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound N.Y. The first single “Holding On” was released in Canada and the response was impressive despite having no initial physical distribution. “Holding On” has been played by more than 50 Active Rock and Campus Radio stations across Canada including regular rotation on Sirius Canada Network. A video for “Holding On” (1) was released as well which was directed by Juno award-winning director, Marc Ricciardelli. The unique, over the top video was brought into regular rotation on Much Loud after release of the single and was also featured on Much Music and Much More Music. The chemistry of this band is truly amazing and their live performance is a visual and sonic extravaganza as is documented by a live video of the band’s performance supporting Lynch Mob in Edmonton, AB. (2). The band received very favorable reviews from the press and this resulted in Sunmor Entertainment Inc. acquiring physical and digital distribution through BDG/RED/Sony. The album was officially released on Aug. 30, 2011 in Canada under Sony Music Canada distribution and in the U.S. under BDG/RED distribution. A successful U.S. tour in September 2011 with Stryper resulted in some excellent exposure and has ignited a social media buzz about the band. This tour was featured in a recent KILLINGER interview with Guitar World magazine (3). The band is unique as it has launched it's own energy drink called the "KILLINGER FOYtonic" in December, 2011. Look for big things in the future with this band!
