The idea of a musical project including Alexandre and Yann appeared in 2001. A few months later, we recorded our first instrumental EP which was a cross between heavy and dark metal. Still unnamed, we kept on writing songs, increasingly inspired by black metal and classical music. Sylvain (bass) and Alexis (keyboards) joined us in late 2003. The band, with its new name, Repentance, played with an almost complete line-up during several months, but we stopped rehearsals because of the members’ unavailability. Nevertheless, three songs (including L’Encre et la Plume and Erythème) were ready to be recorded in June 2004. Technical problems at the last minute delayed the recording session, which finally took place a year later. During this period, Le Baptistère was written, and replaced an older song on La Rumeur des Chaînes’s track-listing. We also realised that we would always lack time for regular rehearsals and concerts, so the project became studio-based only, and we decided to abandon the name Repentance. The promotion of this EP became the main aim.
