Focker
Late of the Pier Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Give me a clue
What have I done to you?
Whenever I'm late
You give me a stare
Breaking my heart in two
I wanna be your friend, oh yeah
I wanna be your friend
I wanna be your friend, oh yeah
I wanna be your friend
Wouldn't it be good?
Wouldn't it be great?
Wouldn't it be oh so fine?
If I was there
There to be yours
Maybe if you were mine?
I wanna be your friend, oh yeah
I wanna be your friend
I wanna be your friend, oh yeah
I wanna be your friend
Ahh
Ahhh-Ahh
Ahhh-Ahh
Ahhhhhhhhhhh-
Ahh
Ahhh-Ahh
Ahhh-Ahh
Ahhhhhhhhhhh
The lyrics to "Focker" by Late of the Pier seem to express a sense of confusion and urgency in trying to mend a damaged relationship. The singer is asking for a clue as to what they might have said or done to upset the other person. The recurring line "I wanna be your friend" implies that the relationship might have crossed the boundary from friendship to something more, and now the singer wants to return to a place of familiarity and comfortable companionship.
The second verse conveys a sense of missed opportunity and longing for what could have been. The singer reflects on a scenario where they could have been there for the other person, and where they could have been together. The use of the conditional "if" in the line "Maybe if you were mine?" suggests that there is still hope that they could be together, although it is tinged with a sense of uncertainty.
Overall, the song captures the complexity of relationships and the difficulty of navigating the shifting boundaries of friendship and romance. The repetition of the title in the chorus, along with the catchy melody and driving rhythm, create a sense of urgency and desperation that perfectly matches the emotional content of the lyrics.
