Leaves’ Eyes was formed in 2003 by Liv Kristine with her husband, Alexander Krull, and members of his band, Atrocity. The band combines atmospheric metal and classical elements. The lead female vocals are occasionally backed up by death growls from Alexander Krull.
Their debut album, Lovelorn, was released in 2004. The second album, Vinland Saga, was released 30th of May 2005, and retells the tale of the discovery of Vinland (i.e. North America) by Leif Erikson. The EP Legend Land was released on June 2, 2006 as a followup to Vinland Saga.
Liv Kristine created the band name, which is a homophone for the way “Liv’s Eyes” is pronounced by a Norwegian. “Leaves” is connected to nature, which has always been the biggest inspiration for her. Liv Kristine wrote all of the lyrics for the band's first six albums.
On April 15, 2016, the band announced via Facebook that they were parting ways with Liv Kristine, who would be replaced by Elina Siirala of EnkElination.

Leaves' Eyes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I played under the sun
Come to me come into my dreams
This is my light of life
Between the bluebells
Sits a girl with blond braids
A blue-eyed angel
With strawberry cheeks
The spell has bound me
I was living a dream
Norwegian homeland
My heart belongs to you
I climbed mountains so high
I discovered the deep
Long to be long, long to be part of this dream
This is where my heart beats
The song "Norwegian Lovesong" by Leaves' Eyes is a tribute to Norway, the homeland of Liv Kristine Espenæs Krull, the lead singer of the band. The song starts with a simple description of her childhood by the sea, playing under the sun, and invites listeners to come into her dreams, which represent the light of her life. The use of "come into my dreams" in the lyrics symbolizes the mystical and fantastical Norse mythology that has inspired many artists over time. In the next line, "Between the bluebells sits a girl with blond braids," Liv Kristine is introducing herself as the girl she was before growing up and discovering the world. Her description of herself as "a blue-eyed angel with strawberry cheeks" represents the innocence and purity that she associates with her childhood, and the land of her birth.
As the song progresses, Liv Kristine describes her deep connection with Norway and the beauty it has to offer. The mountains and deep blue sea have captured her heart and soul, and she feels a strong pull to be a part of them forever. She has discovered the secrets of nature's beauty, and the song expresses her wish to belong to this land, forever. With "Norwegian homeland, my heart belongs to you," Liv Kristine expresses her deep love for her nation, indicating how much it means to her and how it holds an inseparable place in her heart.
Overall, "Norwegian Lovesong" is an ode to Norway and its natural beauty, as well as an expression of her deep connection to her homeland, which has left an indelible mark on her, shaping her life and music.
