In 2008, a group of Chilean friends, based in Gothenburg, Sweden, gave birth to LecheBurre, a forum for experimental music and enjoyment.
Their work resulted in various projects, ranging from theatre, video, poetry and, of course, music. In 2009, with their actual formation, LecheBurre started a musical career as an established group, appearing in a range of cultural events, parties, underground clubs and participating in several festivals in Scandinavia.
In 2011 they began recording their first album, wanting to, through this work, summarize their history and reach an international audience.
In late October of this year, without even finishing the album, LecheBurre was chosen along with nine other bands, to join a delegation representing the new Swedish musical movements in the Womex expo, held in Copenhagen, where thousands of representatives of world music from all over world meet every year.
LecheBurre, with its “Latinflow”, has managed to distinguish themselves within the musical society as a band that charms a wide audience, from the youngest to the older.
This has been one of the goals of the band: being a bridge between generations, nations and cultures making the audience feel as participants in what is developing on stage and be a part of the kind of world Lecheburre wants to create.
What is Latinflow then? It is not so easy to define because the term arised in a needing to escape the definition. Not wanting to represent any particular musical tradition, LecheBurre has tried, like all bands, to find a unique sound and style of their own. The starting point of this search was primarily rhythmic bases and harmonic sequences from Latin American music and, of course, any style that presented itself was quickly transformed and converted into something different. The important thing has not been not to keep the traditions alive but to follow the main thread of musical conversation; the flow. Today we consider it to be a style that we cultivate but unlike others, it is exposed, in essence, to freedom of transformation.
Why LecheBurre? It is the characteristic shout of the pedlar who walked the streets with his donkey selling donkeymilk, that some of us remember from our childhood. This shout sounded like an echo. Some of us are even lucky enough to have tried the donkey milk, the animal milk that has most in common with the human breast milk.
At first it was just a shout that they wanted to remember imitating it and making it rumble in the streets of Gothenburg, a game among many others, but then they used just it in their first public appearance October 14 2005, at an annual event held in Gothenburg called ”The Night of Culture” (Kulturnatta).
Today it is the bands official name but not by chance or on a whim, but because of what it means for the group with all the significances and values the name has accumulated during this time: the milk that feed us when we were babies, the white colour represents purity and the stubborn donkey that also manages to be wise and to bear the sorrows of the world.
The properties of this milk was already appreciated by the great and ancient Egyptian culture, like many others, and now, thanks to the high level of nutrients and the simplicity with which the human body digests it, the interest in asses’ milk is experiencing a boom trough many organic farms in Europe, where the milk is used also to produce creams, soaps and other products. Viva la LecheBurre!
