The band's final line-up consisted of sisters Kirsty (keyboards, vocals) and Mel Tickle (lead vocals, guitar), guitarist/vocalist Patrick Elliott and drummer Miro Mackie. Live, they were joined by guitarist Charles Sale and bassist Mic Pringle.
Prior to the release of their debut album, the band independently released two EPs, The Dead Loss EP (2008) and Different in the Distance (2009). The band was named as one of triple j’s ‘Next Crop’ artists in late 2008, and made the state finals of MTV’s Kickstart competition in the same year. In 2009, Little Scout toured the east coast with Belles Will Ring and Philadelphia Grand Jury, and shortly after they toured throughout regional Queensland with Josh Pyke. The band has also played with Jens Lekman, Holly Throsby, The Middle East and Cloud Control and toured the east coast with The John Steel Singers, Parades, The New Pornographers and School of Seven Bells.
The group's debut album, Take Your Light, was released in August 2011. A new standalone single, "Go Quietly," was released in June 2012. It was later included in the tracklisting for the band's second studio album, entitled Are You Life. The album was crowd-funded and released independently in September 2013. Its release coincided with the release of a second single from the album, "March Over to Me." 2013 also saw Kirsty relocating to Berlin, thus deeming her an inactive member of the band. She returned to play a series of shows with the band at Woodford Folk Festival in late 2014.
In January 2015, the band announced their end via Facebook.
