Lucy Dacus Lyrics
The first time I tasted somebody else's spit
I had a coughing fit
I mistakenly called them by your name
I was let down, it wasn't the same
I'm doing fine
Trying to derail my one track mind
Regaining my self-worth in record time
But I can't help but think
Of your other in the bed that was mine
Am I a masochist
Resisting urges to punch you in the teeth?
Call you a bitch and leave?
Why did I come here? To sit and watch you stare at your feet?
What was the plan? Absolve your guilt and shake hands?
I feel no need to forgive but I might as well
But let me kiss your lips so I know how it felt
Pay for my coffee and leave before the sun goes down
Walk for hours in the dark feeling all hell
Don't hold your breath
Forget you ever saw me at my best
You don't deserve what you don't respect
Don't deserve what you say you love and then neglect
Now bite your tongue
It's too dangerous to fall so young
Take back what you said
Can't lose what you never had
I feel no need to forgive but I might as well
But let me kiss your lips so I know how it felt
Pay for my coffee and leave before the sun goes down
Walk for hours in the dark feeling all hell
You got a nine to five, so I'll take the night shift
And I'll never see you again if I can help it
In five years I hope the songs feel like covers
Dedicated to new lovers
You got a nine to five, so I'll take the night shift
And I'll never see you again if I can help it
In five years I hope the songs feel like covers
Dedicated to new lovers
You got a nine to five, so I'll take the night shift
And I'll never see you again if I can help it
In five years I hope the songs feel like covers
Dedicated to new lovers

[Verse 1]
The first time I tasted somebody else’s spit, I had a coughing fit
I mistakenly called them by your name
I was let down, it wasn’t the same

I had a short “”love”” story that this song was able to perfectly express.
I haven’t seen the guy I liked since 2019.
It’s Nov 2021.
It was only on my first day of my new job did I realise that I was going to be working with him. BUT what was even bizarre, was the fact he worked on the same building, same floor and same unit as myself…
Day 5. I actually bumped into him. Now the messages started.
During the entire time we never really saw each other. Other than the one or two occasions when we’d bumped into each other.
But we kept talking on Insta.
Although this song really resonated with me. He took the night shifts and I had the 9-5 shifts. It’s silly stupid how this came to happen. We never really saw each other.
Between day 5 to the 4-5 weeks I was there I quit. (Not because of him, but the role was just not for me.)
On the Friday morning I quit. Silently, I didn’t tell him on text I quit, everything up to Monday it was normal.
On Monday afternoon (4pm) he left my messages on read. Stopped replying and messaging me completely.
He must’ve found out I quit and is now, and again out of his life.
Sad story, but I’ve come to realise he really was a “player” and a plain coward. Now it’s just up to me to just accept things for the way they are and move on.
Thank you for reading. 🚬
