If I Had a Boat
Lyle Lovett Lyrics
And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
I said me upon my pony on my boat
Now if I were Roy Rogers
I'd sure enough be single
I couldn't bring myself to marrying old Dale
It'd just be me and Trigger
We'd go ridin' through them movies
And we'd buy a boat and on the sea we'd sail
And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
I said me upon my pony on my boat
And now the mystery masked man was smart
He got himself a Tonto
'Cause Tonto did the dirty work for free
But Tonto he was smarter
And one day said, "Kemo sabe
Kiss my ass I bought a boat
I'm going out to sea"
And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Said me upon my pony on my boat
And if I were like lightning
I wouldn't need no sneakers
Well I'd come and go whenever I would please
And I'd scare 'em by the shade tree
And I'd scare 'em by the light pole
But I would not scare my pony
On my boat out on the sea
And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
I said me upon my pony on my boat
I said me upon my pony on my boat

A great song about goals & inspirations, and over all : practically a song that's an adventure in itself! ( With surrealistic undertones) In a funny way in this video he looks like a cross between eraserhead and young Bob Dylan!
☆◇ This guy's is just a great musician!! += to all the Hunter S. Thompson fans =
this is one of his favorite songs: of all time, even made sure that the man himself was there live at the funeral/memorial where they cannon blasted his ashes into the air playing this very song, + also Bob Dylan is Mr. Tambourine man another top favorite of HST's he also liked= Grateful Dead's= Friend of the devil + the Rolling Stone's "Sympathy for the devil" And "Street fighting man"
... And I know that Lyle Lovett did a truly wonderful arrangement that was just intricately awesome of "friend of the devil"
If you Ask me, that song speaks a lot to the kind of "Neal Cassady" AKA "On the Road"s "Dean Moriarty" character-s that run about America. Traveling on lust in kicks,& in the like.
However HST was also a devoted big fan of John Prine + CCR...so if you want to find more music that Hunter S. Thompson liked, that's also just great music anyway.
Music in the kind of tradition/awesomeness like this song is... then you should check out the sound tracks "Gonzo: the life and work of Hunter Thompson" ( From a righteous/ Intelligent... Documentary film of the same name)
+ "Where Were You When the Fun Stopped?" Those are 2 great compilations Albums- comprised of songs Hunter S. Thompson liked but damn it, also comprised also of songs that any real music fan should love/know!
Also if you like this kind of music playing= definitely John Prine and Townes Van Zandt,& Gram Parsons + Chris Knight + Arlo Guthrie... are a few other names to check out ... also you might like these recent bands= Trambled by Turtles, or Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros! Hope you check em' out... however must have pretty damn good taste in music to be here already... so Cheers for that friends, & music fiends!!!!
P.L.U.R TO YOU ALL!

I used to sing this song as a lullaby to both my kids when they were little. Which means I probably sang it twice a day for at least 4 years. That's what? Close to 3000 times? Still not tired of it.

So sweet ❤️ my kids lullabies were Paul Simon's "Saint Judy's Comet" for my boy and Townes Van Zant "Katie Belle Blues" for my girl.

Never had kids but was just thinking this would be a great lullaby, probably due to the pony.
David Scott
One of the greatest and most underrated and underappreciated artists of his generation. A true talent through & through.
