With ties in, both, Kentucky & Philadelphia; McFly often finds himself set between heart and home. Strongly infatuated with Philadelphia; a city responsible for bringing the world The Roots (among others). From the tender age of six, he was always singing and writing songs, basic recording equipment was ever-present and McFly decided that one day he would be an artist.
He kept his dreams tightly concealed; it grew to become his best kept secret. Whilst in high school (North Hardin High; Radcliff Kentucky), McFly’s ever-increasing passion for the arts compelled him to make his love public. At this stage in his life, the behind-the-scenes aspect of music strongly attracted McFly. He comissioned all creative facilities into Hip Hop & Soul.
After several years living in the shadows of mentor, and fellow producer, Kevin Burr; McFly felt it was imperative he established himself as a recording artist. After several months of stumbling through the dark artistically, it was obvious something was missing. McFly understood that he was simply entertaining himself and recycling his own artistic instincts. It was time for him to take a required step in reverse in order to advance.
In December of 2004, McFly was surprised when introduced to passionate musicians and DJs alike at the University of Kentucky. Finally escaping the limitation of his own facility, McFly assembled a band (The Glee Club) and grew more passionate about his songwriting and music production craft. The assembly of The Glee Club turned to be a fruitful operation. Via the band, McFly learned the most about life, love, friendship, and brotherhood; traits he lacked earlier in life.
McFly resided in Lexington Kentucky where he continued his musically-nomadic existence. It was here he began collaborating with other writers/producers. Remaining loyal to mentor Kevin Burr, McFly constantly linked with his production ensemble. Several months into his freshman semester, several independent projects were born. The majority of McFly’s projects were collaborations between Burr, McFly, and subsequently The Glee Club.
McFly’s love of soulful melodies and overdriven guitars led him to a Virginia Beach band named “Graffiti Gray”. In fall of 2004 he began communicating with lead singer “EJ” Bollmann; giving much respect to the Graffiti Gray movement. At this time, McFly felt (with EJ) they could fuse their musical influences to create a fresh and distinctive new sound.
McFly’s music is a combination of soulful melodies, lyrics in a constant childlike-search for your ears, and diverse rhythms.
After a long and winding road to becoming a full-fledged and working artist, Marcus McFly has finally accepted his conception; indeed. Marcus McFly is still searching for that gray area. He is discovering new truths in his childlike search for new music, new love, and new life.
