She is known for her musicality and articulate virtuosity, playing a wide repertoire, powerfully yet elegantly.
She studied piano at the Conservatoire National in Paris, under Germaine Mounier, and chamber music under Genevieve Joy-Dutilleux.
Kodama has performed throughout Europe, the United States and Japan. She is especially known for playing Mozart and Beethoven.
In 2002, she gave her final performance of the complete Beethoven piano sonata cycle, which she presented over three consecutive seasons in Los Angeles and Pasadena, California.
Kodama is a founding member of chamber music festivals in San Francisco, Sapporo and Gmunden. She and her husband present one of the most unusual of these, Musical Days at Forest Hill, as this is one of the areas she is most passionate about.
Kodama has recorded with the Naxos label, playing Beethoven Sonatas Nos. 21 (Waldstein), 23 (Appassionata) and 26 (Les Adieux). She has also recorded for Dutch label PentaTone Classics, also playing music by Beethoven.
