Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston
"When You Believe" is a song originally composed by Stephen Schwartz, and later refurbished by writer-producer Babyface, as the theme to the film The Prince of Egypt (see The Prince of Egypt (OST)). It was the main theme of the film and was released as a single by American singers Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as the soundtrack's first single in 1998 (see 1998 in music); it was also the first single from Houston's album My Love Is Your Love and the second from Carey's compilation album #1's. It also received a Golden Satellite Award nomination for "Best Original Song in a Motion Picture". It was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for "Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals", losing to "I Still Have That Other Girl" by Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello. As Carey is part Latin, Houston and Carey were also nominated for "Outstanding Performance of a Song for a Feature Film" at the ALMA Awards.

When You Believe
Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston Lyrics
Many nights we prayed
With no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hope for a song
We barely understood
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains
Long before we knew we could, whoa, yes
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe
(Oh yeah)
Mmmyeah
In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain
Hope seems like the summer birds
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I'm standing here
My hearts so full, I can't explain
Seeking faith and speakin' words
I never thought I'd say
There can be miracles
When you believe (when you believe)
Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill (mmm)
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve (You can achieve)
When you believe somehow you will
You will when you believe
They don't always happen when you ask
And it's easy to give in to your fears
But when you're blinded by your pain
Can't see your way clear through the rain
A small but still, resilient voice
Says hope is very near, oh (oh)
There can be miracles (miracles)
When you believe (boy, when you believe, yeah) (though hope is frail)
Though hope is frail (it's hard)
Its hard to kill (hard to kill, oh, yeah)
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve (you can achieve, oh)
When you believe somehow you will (somehow, somehow, somehow)
Now you will (now I, now I, know)
You will when you believe (when you)
(Oh oh)
(You will when you)
(You will when you believe)
(Ohoohooh)
(Oh, oh, you will) (believe)
(Just believe)
You will when you believe

@Renz Chloe Parungao I just don't get the Mariah thing. Just because someone can sing in 4 or 5 octives does not make them good singers. If I were to PICK the best of the era. (I really don't listen to that kind of music.) But my two.for that era would go to Christina Aguilera & of course WHITNEY. NEVER got into the Mariah thing.MUSIC ,ART IS SO SUBJECTIVE.✌
