Mary Lynn's debut album, Familiar Things and Places (2013), eagerly shares every extraordinary corner of her worried mind and open heart. Mary Lynn's songs flow with a sense of musical familiarity and simplicity that beautifully magnifies the sincerity and vulnerability always found in her lyrics. Each of her ten tiny masterpieces works together to create an irresistible sound all her own, whether colossally rockin' ("Only Human", "Isn't It Pretty", "Too Much Love") or achingly intimate ("Often", "Time To Spare", "dancing").
Chicago-native Mary Lynn began playing piano in 1996 with once-secret dreams of writing her own songs. In 2008, she joined This Is My Suitcase, one of the loudest, left-field pop acts in Columbus, Ohio, where Mary Lynn was earning her Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology from Capital University. With Mary Lynn's musical talents and engineering assistance, the band recorded an ambitious album, The Keys To Cat Heaven, in Los Angeles, California and Columbus, Ohio. In 2010, The Keys To Cat Heaven was released through Paper + Plastick Records. With the band, Mary Lynn played on the main stages of Columbus's biggest festivals (Comfest, Independant's Day, Columbus Arts Festival), as well as countless tours and shows with national (Fall Out Boy, Kevin Devine, Matt and Kim) and local acts. Mary Lynn's songwriting aspirations began to catch up with her in 2009, immediately yielding a fan base in Columbus as she was willing to share her songs.
"Really pretty good and ambitious." Bill Moriarty, producer (Dr Dog)
"With so many highlights, Familiar Things And Places is a well-crafted, breezy 26 minutes that rewards with repeated listens and should please pop aficionados of all stripes." - Adam Scoppa, 614 Magazine
"...the voice at the center of the record is unmistakably her own — heartfelt musings couched in twee melodies that lope and soar." - Chris DeVille, Columbus Alive
"...for fans of the Beatles. Sing-along songs never go out of style." - Joel Oliphint, The Other Paper
"[Mary Lynn's] album is chock full of honesty and self-doubt and melody... And I can’t really resist this kind of vulnerability when it’s soundtracked by so much pretty piano." - Sean, The Wounded Jukebox
