He has toured with Owl City, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, The Fray, Jason Mraz, Vedera Newsboys, MUTEMATH, Meiko, Cary Brothers, and Train; and headlined VH1's first ever "You Oughta Know Tour" in the spring of 2007.

Kearney has stated that his legal name is Mathew due to a nurse's error on his birth certificate. He discovered the error while in the 8th grade when he noticed how his mom corrected the error with red ink, never legally correcting it. Since then, he embraced the one T in his legal name.

Nothing Left To Lose
Mat Kearney Lyrics
Something's in the air tonight
The sky's alive with a burning light
You can mark my words something's about to break
And I found myself in a bitter fight
While I've held your hand through the darkest night
Don't know where your coming from, but your coming soon
To a kid from Oregon by way of California
All of this is more than I've ever known or seen
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
And here we go
There's nothing left to choose
And here we go
There's nothing left to lose
So I packed my car and headed east
Where I felt your fire and a sweet release
There's a fire in these hills that's coming down
And I don't know much, but I found you here
And I cannot wait another year
Don't know where your coming from, but you coming soon
To a kid from Oregon by way of California
All of this is more than I've ever known or seen
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
And here we go
There's nothing left to choose
And here we go
There's nothing left to lose
I can still hear the trains out my window
From Hobart street to here in Nashville
I can still smell the pomegranates grow
And I don't know how hard this wind will blow
Or where we'll go
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
And here we go
There's nothing left to choose
And here we go
There's nothing left to lose

This song speaks to my inner self. I can't explain why it touches me so. I love it.

Matt is from a Christian background, the song is about walking with Jesus again "Found myself in a bitter fight when I felt your hand in the dead of night, don't know where you're coming from but your're coming soon". We are living in the last days and indeed Jesus is coming soon. Love this song.

It always has for me too. I can use it so many ways. We were in the stretch from Little Melbourne Florida and all I could think about was my little granddaughter we were going to see and I was telling my husband push the pedal down watch the world fly by us. And I played it and...idk I just love it!! Makes my tummy swirly! Thanks Matt!

it does for me as well, from Nashville but wanting to run to Oregon.

It was 2007. I was unemployed, broke and lived in front of my computer trying to rectify my situation.. Cold calling., cold emailing. This song was played quite frequently on the radio. There was nothing good about the time. It was difficult snd sad and as horrible as it was, I hear this song, reflect back on that time and smile, wistfully. Broke and unemployed and unsure of my future yet the simplicity of my situation, trying my best, hoping, praying , making wishes. A lot has happened since 2007. I wouldn’t want to go back to that time, but I certainly miss certain uncomplicated aspects of that era.

I can relate to that exact time and place. I too found hope in the middle of that year and continue to move forward. I have made the choice not to look back.

Thales87 G I worked freelance gigs and found a comedy writing gig in radio for a few years, then that station died and then back to more freelance gigs, then another job as a features reporter for about a year and a half, then I experienced very big changes in my private life which enabled me to retire at 52. I was lucky. Blessed. Pick an adjective.
Thanks for asking. Being quarantined for what seems like months, I’ve been able to reflect back on that time and other periods in my life. Some fall under the heading of temps perdu, but not this particular period of unemployment. At the time, I certainly didn’t think being so broke and having so much uncertainty in my life could ever be deemed as “good,”, but it was in It’s own way. Educational really. I was alone yet I learn to be ok with me, in my own space, I learned to survive and somehow, make things happen.
Periods of unsatiated want and need can be character building. You might not realize it at the time, but in retrospect, which is always 20/20, it’s glaringly apparent. Be safe and well.
