L'Apologie
Matmatah Lyrics

L'an 2000 approchant rattraper le retard
Matmatah's song L'Apologie is a critique of France's hypocritical attitudes towards marijuana and alcohol consumption. The song begins with the singer describing how smoking weed in moderation is not harmful and is much safer than excessive drinking, which can lead to cirrhosis. The singer contends that weed should be treated with similar respect because it is an anti-depressant and has no harmful effects. However, the French government has made it illegal, while tobacco and alcohol continue to be legal and are responsible for thousands of deaths annually. The chorus of the song repeats that marijuana is better than alcohol and this sentiment is repeated multiple times throughout the song. The song concludes with a call to action, urging the government to legalize marijuana so people can live happier and healthier lives.
