Hello Time Bomb
Matthew Good Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

I found me a reason
So check me tomorrow
We'll see if I'm leaking
Push and push and push till it hurts
My devil's on rollerskates
Down at the roller rink
Picking up chicks for me
Ones that push and push and push till it hurts
Push and push till it hurts

Dirty enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad
Dirty enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad

Life's for the living
So check me tomorrow
We'll see if I'm kidding
Push and push and push till it hurts
Did it on Ritalin
I got me some good grades
Now I work me the night shift
Where I pull and pull and pull till it hurts
Pull and pull till it hurts

Dirty enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad
Dirty enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad
Hello time bomb, I'm ready to go off

If life's for the livid
Check me tomorrow
We'll see if I'm emperor
My devil's on sugar smacks
Down at the radio shack
We're turning shit into solid gold, solid gold

Dirty enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad
Dirty enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad
Hello Time Bomb, I'm ready to go off
Hello Time Bomb, I'm ready to go
Ready to go off

Dirty enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad
Dirty it enough I got me a love
And it's so bad, it's so bad

Hello time bomb, I'm ready to go off
Hello time bomb, I'm ready to go off.

Overall Meaning

The song "Hello Time Bomb" by the Matthew Good band is about living life to the fullest, taking risks and throwing caution to the wind. The lyrics speak of living in the moment and embracing all of life's experiences, even if they are painful or sinful. The line "push and push and push till it hurts" expresses the idea of testing one's limits and boundaries in life, even if it results in pain or discomfort. The protagonist in the song is someone who revels in a fast, dangerous lifestyle, fueled by his love for adventure and living in the moment, hence the lyrics "hello time bomb, I'm ready to go off".

The line "Did it on Ritalin, I got me some good grades, Now I work me the night shift, Where I pull and pull and pull till it hurts" suggests that the protagonist has had struggles with attention deficit disorder, which led them to take Ritalin for academic success. This line further highlights the theme of taking risks and living life in the fast lane, even if it means resorting to drugs to achieve success.

Throughout the song, the lyrics are rebellious and express a desire to shake up the status quo. The character in the song is frustrated with the mundane aspects of life, working a nine-to-five job and conforming to societal expectations. Instead, they choose to embrace their inner rebel, pushing their boundaries to the limit and taking risks to find something greater in life.

This may have been the most underrated song to come out in the early 2000's.

Your Subconscious

I loved this band in High School. Was just finding my sound of music and trying to understand lyrics and their meanings and seeing why people liked alternative music so much (it was very popular in the 90's).

I used to live in Buffalo New York and listen to 102.1 The Edge CFNY as well as Kiss 98.5 WKSE but since I live in New York City now I miss not being able to listen to CFNY at least anyway for Great Canadian alternative music. I tried to download their app and it wouldn't work on my phone for me to play in the car when I'm driving around through streaming. The other alternative Station in New York City Alt 92.3 was great except they lack Canadian content being that they're in the US plus they just recently moved their alternative format only to their HD2 sub carrier Channel and they took their HD1 Channel and turned it into and FM news simulcast of their am sister station which is incredibly stupid since they are the only station in town playing any genre of new rock whether it be alternative or not. The only other two radio stations I like there now that are still in HD1 are the two top 40 stations namely Z100 and 103.5 KTU ( the beat of NY). Now the remaining rock station in HD one is Q104.3 which is a pure classic rock station even more classic then Q107 in Toronto and I don't listen to them anyway. That reminded me of some of the stupid AM radio format changes to talk radio and Southern Ontario during the 90s but at least that was AM radio so there was some understanding for that even though I didn't like that either when I used to listen to those stations too.
