Ascension
Maxwell Lyrics

It happened the moment, when you were revealed
'Cause you were a dream that you should not have been
A fantasy real
You gave me this beating baby
This rhythm inside
And you made me feel good and feel nice and feel loved
Give me paradise

So shouldn't I realize
You're the highest of the high
If you don't know, then I'll say it
So don't ever wonder (don't ever wonder)

Shouldn't I realize (shouldn't I realize)
You're the highest of the high
If you don't know, then I'll say it
So don't ever wonder

So tell me how long
How long it's gonna take until you speak, babe
'Cause I can't live my life
Without you here by my side
Woo
You gave me the feelin', feelin' in my life

So shouldn't I realize
You're the highest of the high
If you don't know, then I'll say it
So don't ever wonder (wonder) (don't ever wonder)

Shouldn't I realize (shouldn't I realize)
You're the highest of the high
That you're the highest of the high
If you don't know, then I'll say it
So don't ever wonder (don't ever wonder)
Shouldn't I realize
You're the highest
If you don't know, then I'll say it
So don't ever wonder (don't ever)
Don't ever wonder
Woo
Don't ever wonder
Oh, don't ever wonder
Don't ever wonder
Never question the meaning
Don't ever wonder
Without you there's no me, don't ever wonder
Don't ever wonder
Can't you see?
Don't ever wonder
Can't you see?
Don't ever wonder

@Leopold Broom I don't agree. When I revisit past decades I always delight at the music of the 60's and 90's, with the 80's, 70's and early 00's all offering a strong selection. I always think the songs of the 50's and prior were kind of whack, save for Cole Porter, Bach and Vivaldi.

The environment was such that the artists of certain decades made music that talented musicians of later years would fall into the wrong wavelength to ever come close to.

I know every decade has bad music but the 80's and 90's saw everything in symphony. The music videos were niche and original, yet pretty arresting for most key songs. The songs were usually played in smart playlists. The hit songs were all high standard, which I think in more recent years I notice that the best songs of the year seem to take many months to be realised. About 20 years ago, most hit songs were not at all great music, but most of the great music of a given year was also a hit song in the same year.

What I am saying is still ignorant and cannot lodge into a YT comment what is fully true. I do tend to believe that the love for certain decades is beyond nostalgia. You have to remember that videogames had not blossomed at all, so music culture was kind of fresher than it would be.

You can kind of track how much life there was in the culture by the movies. Batman films simply became classics whomever was at the helm, Spiderman was not some cute indie superhero people took for granted but genuinely a mind blowing filmic experience. The Thor films were seriously fresh too. However, each year that passed genuine masterpieces like Forrest Gump, Trains, Planes and Automobiles and Pretty in Pink were running dry.

Whenever the last Sean of the Dead and Meet the Parents films were released probably spelt the start of a cooler run. Was it 2012?

People might be more capable now because of access to resources, but back in the day there was more specialism and so musical craft just carried more weight. There is no way that people's perception about music is wrong. The technological changes brought about came to an apex in 2007-2015. People cannot just survive a massive culture vacuum and still produce music on a level with Pink Floyd, Bee Gees, Outkast, the Jackson 5, Zeppelin and the Beatles. It is not possible and not really the fault of recent generations.

I mean, I really love 'Good Life' by Kanye West and T-Pain. Yet, T-Pain has been accused to drowning the Rn'B market with autotune. I cannot argue with that. His song 'Sprung' is an immaculate melody that belongs to gospel music, and he uses it to sing about how mean his girlfriend is for trying to tie him down ("She ain't even my main lady"). When those sentiments leave hip-hop and enter beautiful music, the culture is wheezing really dry air.

Just my two cents. Hope you are well, Leopold, and I don't mean bad by my message. I just wanted to say that I both foresaw music becoming worse as a child and felt like I experienced it happening way before hitting a "jaded age".

It happened the moment
When you were revealed
'Cause you were a dream
That you should not have been a fantasy, real
You gave me this beating baby
This ryhthm inside high
Well, you made me feel good
And feel nice and feel loved
Gave me paradise
So
Shouldn't I reallize
You're the highest of the high
And if you don't know then I'll say it
So don't ever wonder (Don't ever wonder)
Shouldn't I realize (Shouldn't I realize)
You're the highest of the high
If you don't know, then I'll say it
So don't ever wonder
So tell me how long

You gave me the feelin', feelin', in my life, so
Shouldn't I reallize
