He lives and works in the Dutch town of Groningen.
In total, Talma released fifteen studio albums: nine albums under his own name (for those works see: Meindert Talma), six with his backing band The Negroes, one album of football/soccer songs with a special backing band named De Rode Kaarten ('The Red Cards'; see Meindert Talma & De Rode Kaarten) and one album with The Melisma Saxophone Quartet (see Meindert Talma & The Melisma Saxophone Quartet).
Meindert Talma & The Negroes is a four-piece band from the northern provinces of The Netherlands playing an unusual mix of pop and rock 'n roll, inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach, Johnny Cash, !!!, Goldfrapp, Eels, 22 Pistepirrko and many more.
The band's obscure début Hondert Punten (1996) is now an extremely hard to find cult item. To a lesser extent, this also goes for 1998's sophomore album, Ferhûddûker. The three albums thereafter were released on esteemed indie label Excelsior Recordings and are still widely available: Dammen met Ome Hajo ('Playing Checkers With Uncle Hajo', also the title of a simultaneously released novel, 1999), Leave Stumper ('Dear Wretch', 2001), the self-titled Meindert Talma & the Negroes (2005) and Nu Geloof Ik Wat Er In De Bijbel Staat ('Now I Believe What It Says In The Bible', 2006). The 'Bible' album contains nine interpretations of songs from Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music (1952).
For Talma's other albums, see Meindert Talma, Meindert Talma & De Rode Kaarten and/or Meindert Talma & The Melisma Saxophone Quartet.
Please note that all of Talma's albums are now listed on Spotify under the Meindert Talma moniker. Almost all of his scrobbles will be under that name from now on.
