Merrill Womach was an American Concert Organist and an Operatic Tenor - a gospel singer with an astounding 4 Octave range. He was notable both for founding the "National Music Service" (now Global Distribution Network, Inc.), which provided both recorded music and sound systems to funeral homes across America. Merrill Always believed that Music would heal the broken heart and restore the soul. Until he closed the company in 2007, National Music Service, (NMS), served the Funeral Home industry for 56 years. About two-thirds of active funeral homes in America were using his music and/or sound systems at one time.
Merrill survived a Fiery Airplane Crash on Thursday, November 23, 1961 (Thanksgiving Day) near Beaver Marsh, Oregon, that left him terribly disfigured with third degree burns over his hands, forearms, and his entire neck and head. After over 100 operations to graft skin onto his head, neck, hands and forearms, Merrill Began a lifetime concert tour. He produced 40 professionally recorded music albums, with some of the going "Gold" or "Platinum". ("He Restoreth My Soul", "How Great thou Art", "Light of the World".) He knew that the fiery crash had improved both his voice and his faith.
Womach authorized an autobiography of his recovery, titled "Tested by Fire", co-authored with his former wife Virginia with help from their friends Mel and Lyla White. A documentary film titled "He Restoreth My Soul" was also made about Womach's terrible accident and his subsequent recovery. He continued giving public concerts as a gospel soloist for most of his life.
He died peacefully in his sleep on December 28, 2014, at the age of 87.
