With nothing much to do in their first year they wrote their debut EP โVulturesโ and recorded it themselves with the Universities facilities. The band drew influences from bands such as Reuben, Incubus and The Mars Volta. And managed to get the latter bands art designer, Sonny Kay to design them a logo. Sonny has designed all of the bands artwork. The EP was pressed in digipaks and released for digital download by the band.
MLIC started gigging regularly in Scarborough, and in 2008 they branched out with gigs all over England. The band won the opportunity to open up for Feeder at the Scarborough Spa in front of 1800 people, and followed this up with an 11-date UK tour. At this time the band started to receive promising reviews for โVulturesโ in many of the UKโs leading music zines, such as Beat Motel and A Short Fanzine About Rocking. And this was accompanied by radio play on BBC 6 music, regional BBC stations and college radio in the US. The band also performed live on BBC Radio York, and Hull station KCFM.
As the band entered their second year at University they wrote and recorded their second EP, โLions Ledโ, which was mixed by Jason Wilcock (Reuben, Blakfish) at Stakeout Studios, London 2009. Sound On Sound Magazine paid for the EP pressing, with the bands โVulturesโ EP winning their artist of the month competition for October 2009.
At the start of the bands third year at University, the bands guitarist dislocated his knee during a freshers gig in Scarborough, and prior to this the bands trusty estate engine blew, leaving the band without transport. However with University finished, and new transport acquired, Mum Locked In Castle are embarking on a promotional push of their โLions Ledโ EP, with initial reviews in UK zines surpassing that of the โVulturesโ EP.
