I Don't Want to Wait
Paula Cole Lyrics

So open up your morning light
And say a little prayer for I
You know that if we are to stay alive
And see the peace in every eye

She had two babies
One was six months one was three
In the war of '44
Every telephone ring
Every heartbeat stinging
When she thought it was God calling her
Oh, would her son grow to know his father

I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
I want to know right now
What will it be
I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
Will it be yes or will it be sorry?

He showed up all wet
On the rainy front step
Wearing shrapnel in his skin
And the war he saw
Lives inside him still
It's so hard to be gentle and warm
The years passed by and now
He has a granddaughter

I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
I want to know right now
What will it be
I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
Will it be yes or will it be

Oh, so you look at me
From across the room
You're wearing your anguish again
Believe me I know the feeling
It sucks you into the jaws of anger
Oh, so breathe a little more deeply my love
All we have is this very moment
And I don't want to do what
His father and his father and his father did
I want to be here now

So open up your morning light
And say a little prayer for I
You know that if we are to stay alive
And see the peace in every eye

I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
I want to know right now
What will it be
I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
Will it be yes or will it be

I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
I want to know right now
What will it be
I don't want to wait
For our lives to be over
Will it be yes or will it be sorry?

So open up your morning light
And say a little prayer for I
You know that if we are to stay alive
And see the love in every eye

[Chorus]
I don't want to wait for our lives to be over
I want to know right now what will it be
I don't want to wait for our lives to be over
Will it be yes or will it be sorry

[Refrain]
Doo doo doo doooo
Doo doo doo doooo
Doo doo doo doo doooo

[Verse 2]

Just rewatched Dawson's Creek on Netflix. Can't believe they replaced this song, but being a big fan of the show I still remember the so many great songs I discovered back in the day that they also replaced:
Eagle eye cherry-Save tonight (S2) when it's Pacey's birthday and he leaves with Dawson on a boat,
Cowboy Junkies-Sweet Jane (S5) when Jen is in a cab in NY crying after talking to her dad,
Billie Myers-Kiss the rain (S2) when Dawson and Joey make up in the rain after fighting as a couple;
The Who-Baba O'Reiley (S5) when Jen dances in the living room before her and Jack are supposed to go to Costa Rica on holiday,
Wheatus-Teenage Dirtbag (S3) when Jen's in her room and Jack asks her about her application to college
Joan Baez-Forever Young (S4) when Dawson and Mitch talk about fatherhood during Gale's baby shower
The Hollies-The air that I breathe (S6) when Joey's walking in Paris
India Arie-Ready for love (S5) when Jen breaks up with Dawson
And so many more....
I hope you listen to some of these if you don't know them... They gave so much meaning to each scene. I don't know how many times I've watched this show since 2000 when I first did (I was 12) and just fell in love with it. It's a whole world to me, a world that has my whole teenage and young adult memories, and it makes me nostalgic just thinking about it. But it was oh so beautiful, the 90s and early 2000s were the best in terms of movies, music and tv shows <3.
