Die kleine Kneipe
Peter Alexander Lyrics
Da fragt dich keiner was du hast oder bist
Da fragt dich keiner was du hast oder bist
Da fragt dich keiner was du hast oder bist
Die kleine Kneipe in unserer Straße
Da wo das Leben noch lebenswert ist
Dort in der Kneipe in unserer Straße
Da fragt dich keiner was du hast oder bist

I was born in Ludwigshafen in 1972 and was raised in Mundennheim till I was 7 when we moved to the States. My German is rusty but here is a crude translation. I remember this was my mother's favorite song before we left and it brings back many memories of my German childhood.
Evening falls over the rooftops of the town
The children in the street must go home
The storekeeper's wife cleans the sidewalk out front
Her husband carries the vegetable crates inside
The day is over
The people are tired
But most don't go straight home
Over there coming from an open door
The music pours out into the street
chorus
The little pub on our street
There where life is worth living
There in the pub on our street
No one asks what you have or who you are
There are postcards on the wall in the corner
There's a picture of football on the wall
You throw a Mark in the machine
Watch others play cards
And stand at the bar with a beer in your hand
And feel comfortable enough to call everyone du
chorus
You speak till you're hoarse and speak from the soul
Just however the mood strikes you
You can find the solution to all the world's problems in the bottom of a glass
If you're hungry you order sausages and kraut
Because that's all there is
The bill is on the coaster
But here everyone has credit
