Goodbye Philadelphia
Peter Cincotti Lyrics
Just like Philadelphia
Freedom means a lot to me
In between the place I've been
And where I'm goin'
I can see America
Tryin' not to show her age
Even though the winds of change
Keep on blowin'
And I would lay your body down
And rock your tears away
But it's much too late for now
To be like yesterday
And the time is running out
And we still have to say
Goodbye
Remember Philadelphia
When the world was young and warm
So in love and living for
Everything new
But I know Philadelphia
The winter wind will slowly take
Your heart and soul until it makes
Nothing of you
And I would lay your body down
And rock your tears away
But it's much too late for now
To be like yesterday
And the time is running out
And we still have to say
Goodbye
Flash a peace sign, take a bow
Though we may not know it now
Things are never gonna be the same
Here on Seventh Avenue
I tip my old top hat to you
I hope you find somebody who
Will love you like I do
Cause I would lay your body down
And rock your tears away
But it's much too late for now
To be like yesterday
And the time is running out
And we still have to say
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye Philadelphia

I just want to say, officially that:
1) This is 1 of the greatest ballads/songs ever written.
2) This is 1 of the greatest ballads/songs ever recorded.
3) This is 1 of the greatest ballads/songs ever performed.
3) SO strange to think that I never would have heard it or even ever knew that this artist existed if I hadn't come across it in a VERY strange way:
Probably back in 2010 or so, I was meandering around in 2nd Life – yes, that virtual world where you have an avatar and go to museums and meet people in virtual bars, etc. and fly around and so forth .… So I was in a new "Sim" (area of land, shops, etc) ) visiting something or someone ... and on somebody's land they were streaming one of those Internet radio stations and THIS song was like in the middle of playing when I flew to that area.
It caught my ear and spirit so strongly and so quickly that I guess I wrote down enough of the lyrics (I don't think Shazam existed yet) and thank God by searching those lyrics I found this what I feel is possibly a perfect song.
To think I've never heard it anywhere else before or since is both sad and makes me thankful that I came across it in that very, very unusual way. It is 1 of my very most favorite songs of all time. And I'm 59!
I don't know if Peter ever reads these comments or would ever see this, but I can't thank you enough for what you have done and what you do!
