Performing on-and-off together since the members were teenagers in the mid-00s, the band has become one of the much-loved mainstays of the Canberra local scene. Performing, recording, and touring purely independently, with no line-up changes throughout their decade plus together - PTJY are in it for the sheer love of the game.
2008 saw the demos/singles R.L. Stine and Motherfuckers Everywhere chart on the Triple J Unearthed site. While the tongue-in-cheek piss-taking has left their songwriting as they've matured, the ballistic, youthful energy that spawned it has not.
2010 saw the release of their first professionally-recorded output, Cheeseman Place. Recorded live at Infidel Studios in Queanbeyan, this release saw the high water mark of the band's youthful bombast. A fitting bookend to the first part of their career.
[album artist=Pleased to Jive You[/album]Al Dente came in 2012, seeing the band employ a tighter, polished, pop-rock sound. The group's songwriting took a massive leap in the two years between this and Cheeseman Place, and was the first proper realisation of the group's talent. Professionally recorded at Broken Sound Studios in Parramatta, it included the track Hum. A fan-favourite of their live set for years, it closed-out the release on the group's highest point yet.
Also in 2013, At the Ranch was a three-day, three track experiment at a rural property in Murrumbateman. Incorporating hip-hop, samples, and free-wheeling sonic experimentation, before a four-year break in output.
Back with prejudice in 2016, Hand Power saw another great progression in the band's ability and sound. Though home-recorded, the production value on this release is arguably the best in the band's history. The songs too, serve to convey a cohesive artistic vision, and this clarity of purpose really elevates this release to more than just a collection of songs. Says the band, "We all have immeasurable power within our hands. We can use them to communicate, to create and to destroy. We can even use them to write wanky artist statements like this one. They are both symbols and tools. Use them wisely. Start fresh, take risks, creep in the shadows."
The line-up:
Morgan Quinn - Vocals/Guitar
Declan Shrubb - Guitar
Jarrad Stewart - Drums
Jim Nguyen - Bass
