The new album by the Australian duo Pnau, due out in summer 2011 and tentatively titled Soft Universe, is the finest example yet of their epic techno pop. The faster, more uptempo tracks - using their best-known songs to date, Embrace and With You Forever (the latter featuring Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Empire Of The Sun), as the template ' are their most accessible and uplifting ventures yet into the territory of supercharged anthemica.
For Nick, Elton's involvement has been a lifeline. 'He's been incredible at mentoring me through a period of depression,' he reveals. And Pnau have been able to return the favour, working on an album based on the songwriting legend's massive back catalogue, on a project that will amount to a thorough re-examination of his work. It is bound to cause tremendous interest in 2011.

You saved my life
Red and green
Wet shoes slip on refracted lights
Running faster than my legs can take me
Shouting louder than my lungs allow me
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone
Feel my embrace now
Feel my embrace now
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone
Feel my embrace now
Feel my embrace now
Light a match,
Bring the flame over to your eye
Slipping past, you won't see me before you die
Breaking down our sleep, my head's still aching
This war is killing you and all around me
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone
Feel my embrace now
Feel my embrace now
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone
Feel my embrace now
Feel my embrace now
You go, go, go, go
You go, go, go, go
You go, go, go, go
You go, go, go, go
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone
Feel my embrace now
Feel my embrace now
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone
Feel my embrace now
Feel my embrace now
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone
Feel my embrace now
Feel my embrace now
Why has the river flood
Still gotta die for someone

PNAU's song "Embrace" is a powerful and emotional track about the bonds of human connection, with lyrics that contemplate the fragility of life and the importance of being there for one another in challenging times. The opening lines, "On a night like tonight, you saved my life," suggests that this is a song about a life-or-death situation and the sense of gratitude that comes with having someone to rely on. The imagery of "red and green, wet shoes slip on refracted lights" is both vivid and chaotic, reinforcing the sense of urgency and danger.
As the song progresses, the lyrics become more introspective and philosophical, questioning the senseless nature of death and suffering. Lines like "Why has the river flood, still gotta die for someone" hint at a deeper existential crisis, as the songwriter grapples with the meaning of it all. Yet despite the despair, there is also a sense of hope and connection, with the repeated refrain of "feel my embrace now" driving home the importance of human touch and comfort in difficult times.
Overall, "Embrace" is a deeply moving song that captures the complexity and beauty of the human experience, with lyrics that are both poignant and thought-provoking.
