1. Post-punk band from London, UK. https://ppowerplant.bandcamp.com/
2. Powerplant (UK): Powerplant is an inspiring collaboration of British artists, comprising Joby Burgess' playing and electronics with sound design by Matthew Fairclough and visuals by Kathy Hinde. The collective made its debut in 2005, with a sell-out performance at the Southbank Centre, London and has since performed extensively throughout Europe, the USA and beyond, creating an experimental and challenging repertoire fusing seminal percussion works alongside its own work, improvisations, remixes and commissions.
Powerplant's debut album – "a must for anyone surfing the sine waves and all things electronica" Muso Magazine – includes remixes of Kraftwerk featuring the Elysian Quartet alongside Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint. Released in 2008 on Signum Records, "Burgess transfers it to a xylosynth, to a create a glinting, chiming soundworld that seems perfectly judged for Reich's canonical writing." The Guardian.
The second album Import/Export – Burgess' landmark collaboration with Gabriel Prokofiev – was released in 2010 on Nonclassical Records. Including remixes by artists such as Murcof and a DVD of performances, interviews and documentaries; Prokofiev's suite for global junk suite is "pollution as a sound source, recycled to maximum effect" The Wire.
Internationally acclaimed percussionist Joby Burgess is best known for his virtuosic, lissom performances, daring collaborations and extensive education work. Burgess regularly appears both on stage and in recordings with artists including Peter Gabriel, Joanna MacGregor, Stewart Copeland, Peter Maxwell Davies and his chamber groups ensemblebash and New Noise.
3. Vancouver Canada residents John Morgan and Kiki Stewardson have been producing electronic music together since 1999 with success on Bill’s Hamel’s Teknology and Sunkissed labels, and now with Release Records. John’s electronic music background goes far back to the days of acid house in the late 80’s, pioneering live PA and techno on Canada’s West Coast. Kiki’s passion and knowledge of music has helped define a sound that Powerplant are starting to become known for – deep and solid progressive with a good techy edge. Past releases have seen Powerplant in the studio with Bill Hamel, Medway and Simon Noble, and they have been remixed by the likes of Blackwatch and their Vancouver friend Jay Tripwire.
4. Dutch band PowerPlant consists of 4 gits: Akim Moiseenkov on Hammond and vocals, Mathijs Tieken on the drums, Lucas Arnuff on bass, and 'Freek' von Emaus on guitars. PowerPlant is a modern band, that gets its inspiration from the glory days of the seventies. By combining legendary bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, shroom experiences, lager and chronic sleep deprivation, PowerPlant creates a contemporary sound of melancholic happiness and cheap thrills. The songs address issues we can all relate to, be it with a humorous touch. Please check www.myspace.com/thepowerplantmyspace for music and more info!
