I could be wrong I could be right
could be wrong

I could be wrong I could be right
I could be black I could be white
I could be right I could be wrong
I could be white I could be black
Your time has come your second skin
The cost so high the gain so low
Walk through the valley
The written word is a lie

May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you

Could be wrong I could be right
Could be wrong I could be right

I could be wrong I could be right
I could be black I could be white
I could be right I could be wrong
I could be black I could be white
They put a hot wire to my head
'cause of the thing I did and said
And made these feelings go away
Model citizen in every way

May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you

Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy

May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you

Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy

Could be wrong I could be right
Could be wrong I could be right
I could be wrong I could be right
I could be black I could be white
I could be right I could be wrong
I could be black I could be white
Your time has come your second skin
The cost so high the gain so low
Walk through the valley
The written word is a lie

May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you

Could be wrong I could be right
Could be wrong
They put a hot wire to my head
'Cause of the things I did and said
They made these feelings go away
A model citizen in every way
Your time has come your second skin
The cost so high the gain so low

May the road rise with you (Hey)
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you

Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy
Anger is an energy

Overall Meaning

Public Image Ltd's song "Rise" features lyrics that are open to interpretation. The verses in the song present the idea of being uncertain about one's own identity. The lyrics state, "I could be wrong, I could be right, could be black, could be white." These lines suggest that the singer is unsure of their own identity, but that it doesn't matter because they are still human.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "May the road rise with you" which is an Irish blessing used to wish someone well on their journey. The song's title "Rise" also suggests a journey, possibly a journey towards self-discovery.

The verse, "They put a hot wire to my head, 'cause of the thing I did and said, and made these feelings go away, model citizen in every way" suggests that the singer has been brainwashed or tortured in some way to conform to society's expectations of what a "model citizen" should be. This, combined with lines such as "The written word is a lie," may suggest that the song is about the dangers of conformity and blind acceptance of societal norms and beliefs.

Overall, "Rise" is a complex song that presents multiple interpretations, including ideas about identity, self-discovery, conformity, and societal norms.

One of the most epic anthems from the 80’s, just brilliant.

So good!

The only thing better than a John Lydon song is watching someone try and interview him.

Ninja Tyler Black

Had no clue until today that this was Johnny rotten

Adolf Stalin

he's a hoot. Lydon is Irish and living in the UK. we're all fucked up people.

timkjazz

One of the best interviews is with Conan O'Brien who kept the interview moving, kept Lydon engaged and asked questions that Lydon actually didn't seem to mind answering or elaborating on.

You're in for a treat come Mar 11th on Epix. XD

This moves me like Dylan, yet expresses my anger like punk. Johnny looks possessed, and crazy, and I love it! What a fn genius this man is. I can't get enough of this tune, or it's video.

Charles Melchiorre

For years..

Oh yeh, this is the song, we loved it, danced to it, slam danced to it and enjoyed life and friends that we were with. We went to new wave clubs and just met people and hang out, enjoyed great music and this one one of them, all back in the 80s. Still love this music and enjoy it up to this day and brings back a lot of great memories, timeless and ageless music.
