In 1997 the group released a single on Red Jaguire which so impressed Deep Elm Records owner John Szuch that he inaugurated the label's acclaimed Emo Diaries series specifically to release music from Race Car Riot and other emo bands from outside of the New York City scene. A split EP with Appleseed Cast and Planes Mistaken for Stars followed in 1999.
