Raging Lives is an integrated band. The members have come together to give a voice to people with disabilities through music.
Fronted by Colin Wease and Daniel Swart these two lead singers deliver a performance as passionate and truthful as the message in the lyrics. The nucleus of the rhythm section is made up of Marlon Hickey on drums, Chris Burns on bass and Jeremy Ruckels on guitar. They form a tight-knit unit playing anything from rock to reggae and everything in between.
With an E.P. and a full length album completed, Raging Lives are now in the process of putting together works from the last year and a half. The band has gone through some stylistic changes, moving them along a more experimental path. Embracing the use of technology has enabled more creative input for all the performers as well as more autonomy for people in the recording process.
The composition process that has been developed enables people, regardless of disability, to release their inner creativity and articulate their life experience, inner thoughts and the issues that affect them. Song writing helps to reframe what may be negative life experiences into positive expression, and this can allow detachment from these memories to occur. This in turn creates a path to inner healing, enabling the musicians to focus on their hopes and dreams, on their future.
“Civilization is spread more by singing than by anything else, because whole bunches can sing a particular song, where not everyone can join in the same conversation. A song ain’t nothing but a conversation fixed up to here you can talk over and over…. Without getting tired of it” – Woody Guthrie.
