O Death
Ralph Stanley Lyrics

Ooh death
Whooooah death
Won't you spare me over 'til a another year?

Well what is this that I cant see
With ice cold hands taking hold of me

Well I am death none can excel
I'll open the door to heaven or hell
Whoa death someone would pray
Could you wait to call me another day

The children prayed the preacher preached
Time and mercy is out of your reach
I'll fix your feet so you can't walk
I'll lock your jaw so you can't talk

I'll close your eyes so you cant see
This very hour come and go with me
Death I come to take the soul
Leave the body and leave it cold

To drop the flesh up off the frame
Dirt and worm both have a claim

Ooh death
Whooooah death
Won't you spare me over 'til a another year?

My mother came to my bed
Placed a cold towel up on my head
My head is warm my feet are cold
Death is moving upon my soul

Oh death how you treating me
You closed my eyes so I can't see
Well you hurting my body you make cold
You run my life right out of my soul

Oh death please consider my age
Please don't take me at this stage
My wealth is all at your command
If you will move your icy hands

Oh the young, the rich, or poor
How will like me no (?)
No wealth no land no silver or gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul

Ooh death
Whooooah death

Won't you spare me over 'til a another year?
Won't you spare me over 'til a another year?
Won't you spare me over 'til a another year?

O' Death Lyrics

Won't you spare me over til another year
Well what is this that I can't see
With ice cold hands takin' hold of me

Well I am death, none can excel
I'll open the door to heaven or hell
Whoa, death someone would pray
Could you wait to call me another day

The children prayed, the preacher preached
Time and mercy is out of your reach
I'll fix your feet til you cant walk
I'll lock your jaw til you cant talk

I'll close your eyes so you can't see
This very hour, come and go with me
I'm death I come to take the soul
Leave the body and leave it cold

To draw up the flesh off of the frame
Dirt and worm both have a claim
O, Death
O, Death

Won't you spare me over til another year
My mother came to my bed
Placed a cold towel upon my head

My head is warm my feet are cold
Death is a-movin upon my soul
Oh, death how you're treatin' me
You've close my eyes so I can't see

Well you're hurtin' my body
You make me cold
You run my life right outta my soul
Oh death please consider my age

Please don't take me at this stage
My wealth is all at your command
If you will move your icy hand
Oh the young, the rich or poor
Hunger like me you know
No wealth, no ruin, no silver no gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul
O, death
O, death
Wont you spare me over til another year
Wont you spare me over til another year
Wont you spare me over til another year

@James Myers Then you are blessed to have personally seen such a musician.
I'm a Canadian Scot Musician of 36 years and a soundtrack composer.
I was lucky enough to see this broadcast live two decades ago(along with many other people of course, it was the Grammy awards).
At the time, I was Fiancéd to a Native girl, and living in the north of my country(Canada)
We listened and watched this song live , spellbound by the sheer mastery and emotion .
We even stopped breathing for a while, such was the power of the man.
She then turned to me and said: 'He sounds Native. He also sounds like the Traditional Sean-nós singing you do' (I've done a lot of Trad Celtic and Bluegrass sessions)
So our take on this was that Ralph Stanley had 'absorbed' in some way the spirit of the Original people on that land and mixed it in with Irish and Scot A Capella Songwriting.
Now in 2022, I listen to his song to get me through hard times, because that's the way of it.
God bless from Canada.

55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15

38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8

The only thing they can't take away from you.

One elderly man in a suit, no backing, no dancing and you can hear a pin drop. Amazing talent.

@Jeppy Abraham Lincoln only had one nickname, an honorary one at that.
That nickname was, as we all know, "Honest Abe".
President Reject Donald John Trump on the other hand, has managed to accumulate more than four hundred nicknames.
Ranging from "Dishonest Don" and "Don the Con" over "Cheeto Fuhrer" and "Mango Mussolini" to "Agent Orange" and "Agolf Twittler" every single one of them are derogatory.
A tremendously bigly achievement 😂

This is chilling. The fact that he sings this without any instruments just shows how much talent he has. He will be missed but now he is singing for the Lord.

When you die...you will not find out anything. You will die. Which I hope is not soon...Have a great one.

J Rex

@xzysyndrome we will find out when we die. That’s all I’ll say.

xzysyndrome

@J Rex I never once said that. I said that when you die that is the End. If you see that as "Life is pointless" that is on you. Life is an incredible thing...it's rarity in this Universe can only be postulated...the fact that you have it...is grounds for ultimate celebration. Death should not deter you from that celebration...but you will die...and that will be the End of it. What stories will those who survive you tell? Grab it by the horns...and ride it into the sunset. Life has a point...and that is to Live. Death has a point...and that is to Die. Sorry if that upsets you. Live...because one day you won't.
