Go get yours with an exlusive artist offer at www.manzarek-rogersband.com - orders will filled after the holiday week-end, as we are on the road finishing the Eastern tour - so thanks for your patience!!
These virtuosos have combined their artistry to produce a release that skillfully weaves rock, blues, and a tinge of jazz into an innovative tapestry. Brimming with soul, intensity and creative energy, Translucent Blues was inspired by the writings of poets such as Jim Carroll, Warren Zevon and beat Michael McClure. This compelling album features songs with multi-layered arrangements, stylistic depth, and solid driving grooves.
Ray Manzarek said of the album, "This is a head-first dive into American contemporary Blues. Roy and I take the unique art form of the Blues and add a 21st century twist to the genre. We are working with a group of great American poets: Michael McClure, famed beat and close friend of Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsburg; Jim Carroll of 'The Basketball Diaries' fame; Warren Zevon - the 'Werewolf of London' himself; and Michael C. Ford, noted L.A. jazz poet and good friend of Jim Morrison's. Their lyrics are superb, succinct, now, and salient. What Roy and I have weaved around their words are songs that are not standard 12 bar, but do, in fact, live and breathe in the dark, underground world... of the Blues! 'Translucent Blues'"
Roy Rogers added, "This collaboration with Ray was a joy from start to finish. We found inspiration not only from the music and lyrics, but most of all from each other--to create a great sound. To me, the blues is as complex a music as it gets--either you feel it or you don't. But when you add the spice of some of these lyrics, it definitely takes you on a different route. Take a ride with us."
At the Blind Pig website you will also find a free download of "Blues In My Shoes," a track from the new release. On the Ray/Roy website www.manzarek-rogersband.comyou will find an exlusive offer from the artists - and on the ITUNES website you will find a full LP Feature.
Ballads Before The Rain by Ray Manzarek & Roy Rogers
Review by Jim Allen
What do you get when you put former Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek up alongside guitar wizard Roy Rogers (not the cowboy star)? You get BALLADS BEFORE THE RAIN, an evocative, reflective duo release that features Manzarek's piano interacting simply and effectively with Rogers' guitar. The bill of fare is all-instrumental, and includes some Manzarek originals, a Satie piece, and yes, a couple of reinterpreted Doors classics, “Riders on the Storm” and “The Crystal Ship.” Even some 40 years after the Doors, Manzarek's angular, visceral style is still immediately identifiable, but when it crosses paths with Rogers's unearthly slide work and gutsy twang it ventures into new territory, a crossroads where jazz, New Age, and classical meet.
