In it's early form the band consisted of it's three founding members: Jonny Price (lead vocals, guitar), Jon Burrow (guitar) and Ryan Abbt (bass guitar) who were joined later by Sarah Pinnell (drums).
The band found mixed success with this line up, becoming one of the winners of Leeds Bright young things in 2008 but also parting ways with Pinnell later that year. Following the split Chris Fox; spiritual brother to the three remaining members, stepped in to replace Pinnell on drums and the band relocated to London where they currently reside.
"what songs they shall sing"
Having first distinguished themselves on the northern music scene as a noisy student band, the subsequent years for Record Department were a process of maturing and discovering their sound.
Although the themes of loss, paranoia and decay that permeated their early work are still ever present, the band shunned the rough around the edges, wall of sound feel of early demos; more a product of cheap equipment, broken amps and musical ignorance than musical direction, in favour of the soaring guitar lines, and anthemic pop melodies that have become their calling card today.
