Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy
Red Foley Lyrics

Have you ever passed the corner of Forth and Grand?
Where a little ball o' rhythm has a shoe-shine stand
People gather 'round and they clap their hands
He's a great big bundle o' joy
He pops the boogie woogie rag
The Chattanoogie shoe shine boy

He charges you a nickel just to shine one shoe
He makes the oldest kind o' leather look like new
You feel as though you want to dance when he gets through
He's a great big bundle o' joy
He pops the boogie woogie rag
The Chattanoogie shoe shine boy

It's a wonder that the rag don't tear
The way he makes it pop
You ought to see him fan the air
With his hoppity-hippity-hippity-hoppity-hoppity-hippity-hop

He opens up for business when the clock strikes nine
He likes to get 'em early when they're feelin' fine
Everybody gets a little rise and shine
With the great big bundle o' joy
He pops the boogie woogie rag
The Chattanoogie shoe shine boy

Mmm, listen at him go
Mmm, don't that tickle him

It's a wonder that the rag don't tear
The way he makes it pop
Just listen to him fan the air
Here goes

He opens up for business when the clock strikes nine
He likes to get 'em early when they're feelin' fine
Everybody gets a little rise and shine
With the great big bundle o' joy
He pops the boogie woogie rag
The Chattanoogie shoe shine boy

This song brings back so many great memories for me. My grandpa used to sing this for me all the time. He just turned 82 and he’s still got it!

My dad left this earth 2 weeks ago. He sang this all the time when I was little girl. One of his all time favorites, it struck my mind out of nowhere. I am so happy to hear this. Wow.

ringodingo

This recording sounds excellent.

I can die now, knowing I've heard it all. Jazz (Boogie Woogie) - Country. Have long enjoyed the song and Red Foley is a legend.

My grandfather sang this for his school talent show way back then and he won the talent show. ❤️

Great song, I remember listening to it as a child!

In the early 60's I bought an LP record featuring Ernest Tubb on side one and Red Foley on side two. This song was the one I liked the most. I still have that LP in my collection today.

Grandpa used to pay me a shiny new nickel to sing this when I was little, I used his handkerchief and popped it at the right time in the song. A cotton candy toe headed little girl with skinned knees, I know he loved me and this brought him such joy.

Jerry Leveille

This song got me to love blues and rock n roll! Still good today.

Fun fact, this song was inspired by Leroy Daniels, who was one of the greatest blue comics to ever entertain a crowd. He also played himself on "Sanford and Son". Apparently he was also a master shoe shine.
