Them a get so cold searching for food for the pot
They'll do anything to fill that gap, whoo
As generation comes and goes
You gatta make preparation for the youths them a grow
It's what you reap, it's what you sow
The youths, them have a life in the future
So when that's then you know, if education is the key
Then tell me why the people have to make it so expensive for we
Give them the key, oh, set them free
Oh, na, na, na, ayy, eee, eee, oh, na, na, na
Oh, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
You gatta find a better way
'Cause wen we look in a Babylon
Me see a bearful play and so the Gideon stay
Ay, all nation come together
Know that Kingston Selassie the truth
And the light and the way
Kingston people lead them in the right way, eee
You gat to show the people there's still a brighter way, ayy
I know for sure the sun will come out today, ayy
Vanity is an illusion, will have to fade away, ayy, yeah
And all the wicked deeds that done
You know you gat to pay, ayy
The song "Youth Dem Cold" by Richie Spice speaks about the struggles of the youth in Jamaica. The lyrics describe the harsh reality of life in the streets where the youths have to search for food to survive, and often resort to doing anything to fill themselves up. The generation before them has to make adequate preparations for their young ones' future because they will grow up one day. Whatever you sow, you reap, so it's necessary to give them the key to education and set them free. The lyrics also talk about how the people make education so expensive for the youth, which seems unfair. The song encourages people to come together and lead the youth in the right way, show them a brighter path and remind them that there's still hope for them.
The song was co-written by Richie Spice himself and is part of his 2006 album "In The Streets To Africa." It was released by the label VP Records, and it became one of Richie Spice's most successful singles. The song was well received by reggae fans, and it's known for its unique blend of dance and roots reggae sound. Richie Spice's compelling vocals and thoughtful lyrics made it a hit among the Jamaican youths and abroad.
