Released in Japan, Korea, Philippines and Taiwan and her songs got appearance in TV ads, cartoons, jingles and commercials. Ana Laan (the nice lady behind the R.C. mask) has been cited as one of the best contemporary singers.
Sicalyptico, her second album, to date and it is comprehensibly a timeless classic from start to finish. Nothing revolutionary for her but, this record incorporates a delicate sexy perspiration (Sicaliptico is synonymous with erotic in Spanish).
None of the 14 tracks are disappointing, there is some ultra-catchy international jet setting and bubblegum flair emulating The Bugaloos on āBelieveā, wind chiming summery echoes on āBarefoot In The Parkā (N. Hefti), stream acoustic delicacies as āWailing Of The Willowā or āIfā a la Astrud Gilberto, some jazzman's boulevard outing i.e. āOn The Trailā, chiffon scarf fluttering in the breeze behind her voice in āGood To Be Aroundā or ā Lady (With The Tangerine Blouse)ā and of course passionate moments on ā¢Bacalovās āThe Key Witnessā. And of course we added two songs by our demigods Paul Williams and Roger Nichols āThe Drifterā and āItās Hard To Say Goodbyeā.
Despite the title that suggests spooky and dark sounds, we find that her music is very pop, bright, happy, funny even at times. Rita delivers breathy and utterly charming vocals as if she were seducing you. It is plausible to imagine that her as a mermaid, out of water, now in human form, female perfection.
Rita Calypso is a goddess of the female vocals in sophisticated environments and her partners in crime, RamĆ³n Leal and Mateo GuiscafrĆ© are her equal. After her participation in the trilogy Sol y sombra, Educacion y descanso and InformaciĆ³n y Turismo it was only a question of time and public request that the inhouse producers would device a well-arranged record with a tasteful selection of orchestral songs, crystal clear strings and trumpets. The result is a pop treasure of 13 stunning tracks and a very nice production that puts Leal & GuiscafrĆ© next to Tommy LiPuma, Eumir Deodato, Albert Gorgoni, Augusto AlguerĆ³ or Charles Fox.
Siesta has a knack for fashioning simple, yet perfectly formed pop records. The albums are executed perfectly and the imagination never stops. Iot is also plausible to imagine Rita singing while strolling through a meadow of sunflowers, breezes gently blowing her hair...
Finally: Do not mistake our Rita for the homonymous German transvestite. Our Rita is very feminine and not a drag artist!!

The authors of this music are Danny Janssen and Ron Gross. Janssen is also the vocals and lead guitarist of The Mother Love, the group who originally sang this song. Their album, which carries the track, Only Friends, was published in December 1969.
