Caledonia
Ruth Notman Lyrics

I don't know if you can see,
the changes that have come over me,
in these last few days i've been afraid,
we might drift away.
I've been telling old stories, singing songs,
that make me think about where I come from,
that's the reason why I sing,
so far away today.
So let me tell you that I love you,
and I think about you all the time,
Caledonia calling me,
now I'm going home.
And if I shall become a stranger,
know that it will make me more than sad.
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had.
Now I've moved and I've kept on moving,
proved the points that I needed proving,
I've lost the friends that I needed losing,
found others on the way.
I have kissed the lads and left them crying,
stolen dreams yes there's no denying,
I've travelled out sometimes with concsiounce flying,
somewhere in the wind.
So let me tell you that I love you,
and I think about you all the time,
Caledonia calling me,
now I'm going home.
And if I shall become a stranger,
know that it will make me more than sad.
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had.
Now sitting here before the fire,
an empty room on the forest choir,
flames have cooled don't get any higher,
They've withered now they've gone.
But instead of thinking my way is clear,
I know just what I would do tomorrow,
and the hands have shaken, this kiss has flowed,
then I'll dissappear.
So let me tell you that I love you,
and I think about you all the time,
Caledonia calling me,
now I'm going home.
So if I shall become a stranger,
know that it will make me more than sad.
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had.

Definitely not auto tuned you slackers! I've witnessed Ruth singing like this in her mum's house near Nottingham.......her voice brings out the goosebumps sure enough. I loved those sessions back then Ruth.....banjo and guitars and lots of laughter! You won't recognise my name on here Ruth, but I hope your family are ok and especially your mum who I used to work with back in the day in Notts! Best wishes xx

i dont think this is autotuned - this is how Ruth Notman sounds.

Nick Browne

just the most beautiful folk voice going. And not auto-tuned. I have seen her sing this live, she really does have that flute-like quality and range to her.

I have seen Ruth Notman live a few times, she sounds exactly the same live as she does on this recording!

My favourite version of this tune. Saw Ruth gig in Glasgow a few years back and she was excellent.

Jan Andrew

This is my favorite version of this song.
