What's the reason
Silkstone Lyrics

I never told you that I don't need a reason to be in
Love with the smile on your face
Guess I just want you around to keep my feet on the ground
And I say why can't you tell me
What is the reason
Tell me what is on your mind
I'll try not to be uptight but I need to know now
Tell me what is on your mind
Is it something we've got to mend
Or should we do it over again, do you need some more time to
Learn how to love in return
If only you gave me a sign then I'd know I'll be fine
And I say why can't you tell me
What is the reason
Tell me what is on your mind
I'll try not to be uptight but I need to know now
Tell me what is on your mind
Don't be afraid, it's never too late
Can't bare to see you hesitate
It's a matter of time before you'll be mine
But 'till that day I won't cross the line
Then life will be so much better for you and me
Just let us be
And I say why can't you tell me
What is the reason
Tell me what is on your mind
I'll try not to be uptight but I need to know now
Tell me what is on your mind
Tell me what is on your mind
Silkstone's song "What's the reason" appears to be a song about a relationship where the singer is unsure of where their partner's head is at. The opening line, "Hiding from the blue in your eyes," can be interpreted as the singer feeling like their partner is hiding something from them. The next lines, "I never told you that I don't need a reason to be in love with the smile on your face/Guess I just want you around to keep my feet on the ground," suggest that the singer is deeply in love with their partner and values their presence, but wishes their partner would open up more and communicate what's going on in their mind.
The chorus, "Why can't you tell me what is the reason/Tell me what is on your mind/I'll try not to be uptight but I need to know now/Tell me what is on your mind," reinforces this idea that the singer is feeling left in the dark about their partner's feelings. They're trying to give their partner space, but at the same time, they need to know what's going on.
The second verse, "Is it something we've got to mend/Or should we do it over again, do you need some more time to/Learn how to love in return," suggests that there might be some tension or conflict in the relationship. The singer wants to know if they need to work to mend it or if they should just start over, and they wonder if their partner needs more time to learn how to love back. The lines "If only you gave me a sign then I'd know I'll be fine/And I say why can't you tell me" reiterate the idea that the singer needs some sort of communication or reassurance from their partner to know where they stand.
The bridge, "Don't be afraid, it's never too late/Can't bare to see you hesitate/It's a matter of time before you'll be mine/But 'till that day I won't cross the line/Then life will be so much better for you and me/Just let us be," seems to be an attempt to encourage their partner not to be afraid to open up and communicate. The singer wants their partner to know that they care deeply for them and that they're willing to wait for them to be ready to fully commit.
