House Fire
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To save this house from falling
But it burns because it's wood
And now you'll never call me darling
I coughed your name
I smoked all day
And I slept myself sleepy
I was sleeping it away
Don't let it burn
Don't get confused
Don't let it get to you
We did what we could
To save this car from crashing
Your pretty face is soaked in blood
You know, I still find you dashing
Airbag suffocates
You need a little space
The rain on the windshield
I watched you limp away
Doesn't it have to hurt?
Don't get confused
Don't let it bother you
Don't try to call
You'll lose it all
You get used to her bad news,
It's just bad news
The lyrics of "House Fire" by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin deal with the aftermath of a tragic event, possibly a house fire or a car crash, that the singer and his beloved tried to prevent. However, their efforts were in vain as the fire consumed everything in its path, including their relationship. The opening lines "We did what we could to save this house from falling, but it burns because it's wood and now you'll never call me darling" illustrates how they tried their best to save their home, but ultimately it was destroyed because of its wooden structure. This implies that their relationship was also fragile and easily susceptible to breaking.
The second verse talks about a car crash where the singer's partner is critically injured, and her face is covered in blood. The line "You know, I still find you dashing" suggests that despite the horrific situation, the singer still finds his partner beautiful and attractive. The reference to the airbag suffocating her and needing space emphasizes the intense nature of the accident.
The refrain of "Don't let it burn, don't get confused, don't let it get to you," and "Don't try to call, you'll lose it all, you get used to her bad news, it's just bad news" implies that the singer is trying to cope with the aftermath but is struggling to come to terms with what has happened. He advises his partner not to let the situation consume her and advises her not to call him as it won't change the outcome. The song's overall tone is melancholic, sad and emotive.
