Sonido San Francisco (Sound San Francisco) is a mix of opposites, the sound of a small latin town invading the big city, the guacharaca and the güiro sharing frequencies with the synthesizer, the electricity of the bass following the precise tempo of a computer, tropical rythms collaborating with the the tendencies of the digital world, electronic music surrendering to the organic musical tradition of Latin America.
With mexican and colombian roots and after nearly eight years of working as a laptop and dj project, searching for a sound identity between original production and remix work, creating songs and collaborating with different voices, singers, rappers or transforming pop music classics into cumbia such as Beastie Boy’s Intergalactic or the infamous Ice Ice Baby, SSF evolves into a band, adding drums, bass, percusions and a live singer receiving nothing but good reviews from the first show, in which by the way they shared the stage with Montreal`s Ghislain Poirier (2009).
The band takes it’s name from the saint that accompanies a small decadent town between Mexico City and Toluca City, San Francisco de Asís, Xonacatlán, it is also where the band’s headquarters is located and where part of the inspiration is taken from.
2010 brought good things for the creators of “Synth Cumbia” (Cumbia Sintetizador), upcoming collaborations with El Hijo de la Cumbia (Argentina) and Afrodita (México) among others, invitations to play in various festivals worldwide, the recording of their debut album with producer Pablo Valero lead guitar of mythic mexican band Santa Sabina, and the release of their first video/single “El género romántico” which is already being played in Mexico City radio stations and all throughout the web.
We can expect a lot of guacharaca and cumbia from Sonido San Francisco the rest of 2010 and a tropical electronic explosion that’ll wipeout the audience in 2011, you can be sure, this band is yet heating up and just getting started.
