Formed by Shaun Rodan (vocals, guitar), Zac Ward (guitar), Mike Ewings (bass) and James Porteous (drums), Spilt Cities debuted in 2012 with the anthemic single Release (Narrow Escape), introducing their fondness for high contrast, creatively adventurous songwriting.
Steadily earning their stripes as a live band, Spilt Cities released their first EP, build/rebuild later in the year - taking an ever-increasing band chemistry and fluidity, and capturing it with the bombastic production of Laurie McCallum. Described by Space Ship News as “emotionally virile indie rock”, build/rebuild was as beautifully entrancing as it was succinct... and instantly definitive of its creators.
Returning to the studio with McCallum in 2013, Spilt Cities' latest single, Bondurant, builds on this musical definition, whilst being an evolutionary step forward for the band. Darker, more developed and sporting an infectious shuffle, Bondurant weaves together more (and more varied) musical influences that fit within the band's overall love of marrying the ethereal with the caustic.
Innovative and provocative, Spilt Cities reference back through the last three decades of guitar rock in a unique and creative way, extracting all of the best moments and distilling them into completely new and beautiful music. A perfect blend of the familiar and the uncharted.
