1. Squid Squad is a now-disbanded fictional rock band in Nintendo's video game series Splatoon. The group had four members: the Inkling lead singer and guitarist Ichiya, the Inkling synth player Namida, the Inkling bassist Ikkan, and the sea urchin drummer Murasaki. The band’s music was featured heavily in the first Splatoon game, but by the release of Splatoon 2, they had disbanded to pursue their own careers. Ikkan appears in duo Diss-Pair in Splatoon 2, while Ichiya, Namida, and Murasaki appear in rock group Front Roe in Splatoon 3. In real life, the group’s music is supplied by Hiroaki Takeuchi (vocals), Susumu Nishikawa (guitar), Yoshihiko Haga (guitar), TABOKUN (bass), and Akira Tsuneoka (drums).
2. Squid Squad are a high energy band from Melbourne, Australia formed in June 2010. The original incarnation was a 4-piece led by Link McElvenney (Inkstain Pro), they took tracks that had been done in some form in Inkstain Pro's solo projects and made them their own. Mat Jones on guitar provided funky jazz influenced grooves to heavy rock sections and screaming solos, melding with the fat funky and often effected bass tones of Ty Wood and wide and varied grooves of experienced percussionist/drummer Dan Ogilvie to produce a new, genre-bending take on hip-hop.
Rapidly the band grew to a huge gaggle of musicians and performers and their unique live show was born. Charlie Smyles joined the group with smooth keys and funky organ, soul influenced choruses and backings were added by Amy Broomhall and Daniela Lucchetti and a horn section brought a new layer to the sound. This included Jesse Bach on clarinet, Paul Sanchez on trombone and Tiffany on alto sax. Under this lineup they recorded their debut demo ep "Tribe of Squi".
Incorporating exotic dancers and magicians into a high energy live show, Squid Squad grew in popularity in Melbourne and up and down the east coast. The new year brought a lineup change, reducing the size of the band, incorporating more electronic elements and James Handebeaux joined them on drums. The band is now on the way up on the Melbourne music scene and set to hit Sydney this June.
