All four being Syracuse natives aimed towards keeping the rocking guitar based music while adding a powerful female voice.
Upon the group's first rehearsal/writing session, they recorded the unrealeased track, Imperfect. This was a sign of potential that the band hadn't yet realized. In just one day, they had created a foundation of songwriting that led to years of growth. Throughout the end of 1995 and all of 1996, the band continued to write music while performing in local Syracuse clubs like the Lost Horizon. While becoming a tight unit on the small stage, their talent was quickly getting noticed. By the end of the year, Sugarhigh was the supporting act for Geggy Tah as they toured through Syracuse.
With a regular repitoire of songs, Sugarhigh went to the studio to record their album, Spuds. This eight song album, along with a bonus track covering Nena's "99 Red Balloons" is a mix of powerful guitars, strong vocals that many can relate to and rhythms that still remain catchy to this day. During the recording of this album, Sugarhigh met up with Scott Dixon. Scott Dixon was running Styleen's Rhythm Palace in downtown Syracuse at the time. Sugarhigh was soon headlining Styleen's on a monthly basis as it became their "home club." It was there that they played with many other Syracuse bands such as Jamus Breed, The Neural Groove, Dracula Jones, Guardrail, Mike Roy and many others.
