Land of the Dead
Summoning Lyrics

Where forest stream went through the wood
And silent all the stems there stood
Of tall trees, moveless, hanging dark
With mottled shadows on their bark

As faint as deepest sleeper's breath
An echo came as cold as death
Long are the paths, of shadow made
Where no foot's print is ever laid

No moon is there, no voice, no sound
Of beating heart; a sigh profound

Once in each age as each age dies
Alone is heard. Far, far it lies

The Land of Waiting where the Dead sit,
In their thought's shadow, by no moon lit

Upon the plain, there rushed forth and high
Shadows at the end of night and mirrored in the sky

Far far away beyond might of day
And there lay the land of the dead of mortal cold decay

I'd like to pay tribute to the origin of the lyrics. The Lay of Leithian which tells the story of Beren and Lúthien in thousands of lines of rhyming couplets, is unfinished, and only one fragment exists of its ending:

Where the forest-stream went through the wood,
and silent all the stems there stood
of tall trees, moveless, hanging dark
with mottled shadows on their bark
above the green and gleaming river,
there came through leaves a sudden shiver,
a windy whisper through the still
cool silences; and down the hill,
as faint as a deep sleeper's breath,
an echo came as cold as death:
'Long are the paths, of shadow made
where no foot's print is ever laid,
over the hills, across the seas!
Far, far away are the Lands of Ease,
but the Land of the Lost is further yet,
where the Dead wait, while ye forget.
No moon is there, no voice, no sound
of beating heart; a sigh profound
once in each age as each age dies
alone is heard. Far, far it lies,
the Land of Waiting where the Dead sit,
in their thought's shadow, by no moon lit.'

My good friend from growing up was the only person I knew who also appreciated this kind of metal. He died about 6 years ago, heroin of course. There is a deep beauty in this music, the smell of rotting leaves in a dark forest. I always associate the death of leaves in autumn and this kind of music with my friend. There's a beauty and depth, something old and forgotten, from the time before this monotheistic, greedy, satanic shit-world took its form.

Are these tears of sadness and longing? Or are these tears of beauty and happiness?
I honestly don't know.

Deep down I think it's anger.
