Octopus
Syd Barrett Lyrics

Trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro
You have no word
Trip, trip to a dream dragon
Hide your wings in a ghost tower
Sails crackling at every plate we break
Cracked by scattered needles
Little minute gong
Coughs and clears his throat
Madam you see before you stand
Hey ho, never be still
The old original favorite grand
Grasshoppers green Herbarian band
And the tune they play in us confide

So trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro'
You have no word
Please leave us here
Close our eyes to the octopus ride
Isn't it good to be lost in the wood
Isn't it bad so quiet there, in the wood
Meant even less to me than I thought
With a honey plough of yellow prickly seeds
Clover honey pots and mystic shining feed

Well, the madcap laughed at the man on the border
Hey ho, huff the Talbot
Cheetah he cried shouted kangaroo
So through their tree they cried
Please leave us here
Close our eyes to the octopus ride
The madcap laughed at the man on the border
Hey ho, huff the Talbot
The winds they blew and the leaves did wag
And they'll never put me in their bag
The seas will reach and always see
So high you go, so low you creep
The winds it blows in tropical heat
The drones they throng on mossy seats
The squeaking door will always creep
Two up, two down we'll never meet
So merrily trip for good my side
Please leave us here
Close our eyes to the octopus ride

David Bowie cited Syd Barrett as his primary influence

I loved Bowie as a kid because he seemed so original, I didn't recognise his influences, he was original but he had many influences, you hear Syd in his early voice and songs, along with Anthony Newley, Roy Harper, you hear Nick Drake influence on the music from 8 line poem on Hunky Dory, then there was The Velvet Underground, Scott Walker, in the Berlin trilogy, Kraftwerk/Tangerine Dream/Can/Faust/Neubauten - Krautrock, King Crimson and Ambient, there are probably lots I left out.
For me his last great album is Scary Monsters and Super Creeps (1980), Let's Dance & China Girl are good but that's where I lost my soul connection with him.

Shane O'Mahony

Didn't hear that !

Sophia Fakevyrus

And you can't half hear early Bowie in this, voice and guitar.

@Peter Nicholls I highly disagree with Him being the Founder father of Pyschedelic Rock it’s Either 13th Floor Elevators The Beatles with Tomorrow Never Knows, The Animals, and The Yardbirds with Shapes Of Things but he did sort of invented Space Rock and Syd definitely influenced Pyschedelic Rock

Ypu all should just keep quiet cause you are all wrong. You guys arguing about something you clearly don't know shit about. Rap was being done way before it was even considered a thing and it's definitly wasn't being done by any white folks. It's rooted in black culture and not just any black culture, its from Black American Culture. Now when it comes to writing rhymes, thar shit was being done since the start of language.

No hope for humanity

@jason senator You're wise beyond your years.
I have a feeling ye may play a musical instrument.
Rap is an embarrassment to the music industry. (The music industry is embarrassing enough as it is.)
