According to the Taylor Dayne Songfacts Interview, Taylor grew up in Long Island, and her parents were very involved in independent theatre: the Manhattan Theatre Group, the Pap Theatre, La Mome. By 4 or 5 she was singing along with the radio. Her dad gave Taylor her first radio, she turned it on and there was Stevie Wonder playing. As Taylor grew older, she started going into a little bit more of a rock direction as the top 40 was going in a different path for a period of time - it was more of the supergroups, Jethro Tull, Yes etc. She had her first solo by first grade, and by her fourth grade she was singing Jacques Brel.
Dayne came to prominence in the late 1980s and remained at the top of the charts through the 1990s. She released her fifth album "Satisfied" in February 2008. "Beautiful" the first single hit number 1 in the American dance charts and #23 on the Adult Contemporary. The second single from "Satisfied" titled "My Heart Can't Change" reached #19 on the Adult Contemporary chart. In 2010, Dayne's single "Facing A Miracle" was released. In 2011, Dayne's single "Floor On Fire" became her 18th Top 10 hit when it peaked at #8 on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Dayne continues to record and tour.

Tell It to My Heart
Taylor Dayne Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Emotion overload in the heat of pleasure
Take me I'm yours into your arms
Never let me go
Tonight I really need to know
Tell it to my heart
Tell me I'm the only one
Is this really love or just a game?
Tell it to my heart
I can feel my body rock every time you call my name
The passion's so complete
It's never ending
As long as I receive, the message you're sending
Body to body, soul to soul
Always feel you near
So say the words I long to hear
Tell it to my heart
Tell me I'm the only one
Is this really love or just a game?
Tell it to my heart
I can feel my body rock every time you call my name
Love, love on the run, breaking us down
Though we keep holding on
I don't want to lose, no I can't let you go
Tell it to my heart
Tell me I'm the only one
Is this really love or just a game?
Tell it to my heart
I can feel my body rock every time you call my name
Tell it to my heart, tell me from the start, tell it to my heart
Tell it to my heart, tell me from the start, tell it to my heart
Never make it stop
Oh, take it to the heart, ah ah
Tell it to my heart
Tell me I'm the only one
Is this really love or just a game?
Tell it to my heart
I can feel my body rock every time you call my name
Tell it to my heart
Tell me I'm the only one
Is this really love or just a game?
In Taylor Dayne's song Tell It to My Heart, the artist lusts for an answer to her burning question: is this romance real or just a fleeting game? The track embodies the excitement and confusion of new love, as Dayne explores the electrifying emotions that come with embracing passion. She sings about how the night sparks with intense fire when they are together, and that feeling of "emotion overload in the heat of pleasure" is further emphasized by the lively, pulsating synths and pounding drums that make up the song's instrumentation.
Dayne craves validation, and she needs her lover to tell her that she's the only one they truly desire. She wants to know if the sparks they feel are genuine or if this is just a temporary infatuation, ultimately begging her partner to "Tell it to my heart." The song's lyrics are rife with body language and physical sensations, emphasizing the deep physical and emotional connection that Dayne is seeking.
Overall, “Tell It to My Heart” is a song about love, lust, and a driving need for answers in the midst of the whirlwind of a new relationship. It encapsulates the overwhelming feelings and the need for validation that many of us experience when starting a new love affair.
