Everybody Wants to Rule the World
Tears for Fears Lyrics

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you

Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most

Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never, never, never, never need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

I'd love to have been born in the 80s but tighty whities.... Wedgies and swirlys

Born in 2000s I absolutely love the 80s

But in the 80s everybody wore tighty whities

I knew a dude that wore tighty whities and he got wedgied a LOT.

One day someone stuck a note to his back saying wedgie me and we got wedgied so much.
Then the next day in gym three guys grabbed him and gave him an atomic wedgie followed by a hanging wedgie.

He wasn't let down until after gym then he got a swirly so he left that school and I never saw him again

Tighty whities are such a rare thing nowadays I have not even worn them once in my life

This song makes me cry, ugh the nostalgia. I remember being a baby and my daddy was playing this on his stereo in his office while I sat in his other office chair

@Baby Yoda They dont. Just saying whatever to fit in. This person just misrespented an entire generation who was a teenager/young adult listening to the song when it came out. Instead some hipster douche bag appropriates it

You misrepresent a generation with this comment.

I to remember alot from my infant years, it's not uncommon. Some of us are born with it. It can be great memories but also traumatic esp if your parents THOUGHT a baby wouldnt remember seeing stuff that they did

This song is a representation of the 80s the style and the music. One of the best song of the 80s.

@Fleet I’m actually glad to hear that, this is a positive song for me too and brings back good memories. Maybe this song helped to end the Cold War!

Fleet

@salvatore diAngelo thank you for the perspective

To me personally, this song reminds me of simpler times. I'm about to turn 36 in a couple months. The imagery of road trips and synth beats are callbacks to my childhood, of things and feelings left behind in the past.

I suppose I don't have any dark backdrop for this song, but it was interesting to hear about the history you experienced

Don't forget Crowded House
